The Opportunity
As a member of the Investment Strategy team, you will work in a fast-paced, analytical, and highly collaborative environment to develop research-driven content and insights that inform portfolio decisions and clearly communicate MassMutual’s investment strategy to internal and external stakeholders. You will help connect market and macro views, portfolio positioning, and asset‑allocation considerations into a cohesive narrative that supports disciplined decision-making.
The Team The Investment Strategy Team is responsible for critical functions supporting management of MassMutual’s and MassMutual Ascend’s GIAs, sustainability, and communication of MassMutual’s macro views and investment philosophy to key stakeholders. The team is tasked with quantitative analysis, asset allocation, asset‑liability management, communication and fundamental research aimed at maximizing returns for our policyholders. The team is collaborative, inclusive, and plays off of each other’s strengths to solve complex problems. Working on this team, you will have the opportunity to interact with various internal stakeholders including MassMutual’s Finance and Enterprise Risk Areas and Barings, as well as MassMutual’s wholly‑owned asset manager. Team members are intellectually curious, have a passion for markets, and a drive to succeed.
The Impact:
Research Content & Presentation Support – Draft, edit, and maintain recurring and ad hoc materials (e.g., market notes, strategy updates, executive summaries, presentations, and briefing materials). Compile inputs and analysis into clear, concise, and visually effective outputs tailored to different audiences.
Portfolio Analytics & Reporting – Support monitoring of portfolio positioning, investment activity, performance, and key risk/return metrics across asset classes (with an emphasis on fixed income and private assets). Produce routine reporting and ad hoc analyses (tables, charts, and commentary) to enable portfolio and asset‑allocation discussions.
Market & Macro Monitoring – Track key market and macroeconomic indicators, summarize developments, and highlight potential portfolio implications. Support scenario and sensitivity analyses by combining research, quantitative work, and stakeholder inputs.
Stakeholder & Manager Coordination – Gather, organize, and quality‑check portfolio, market, and manager information from internal and external partners (including asset managers). Convert inputs into decision‑ready summaries, dashboards, and presentation materials that align to MassMutual’s objectives, constraints, and insurance‑account context.
Process, Data & Quality Improvement – Enhance repeatable reporting processes, templates, and data workflows to improve accuracy, timeliness, and consistency. Support special projects by partnering across Finance, Risk, and Investments to deliver well‑documented analysis and polished communications.
