
Recreation Specialist I - Immokalee Community Park

Responsibilities
Provides assistance in the execution of Parks & Recreation programs in one or more of the following areas: community center aide, babysitting/childcare, park attendant, after‑school counseling, gymnasium, or fitness; including customer service, receiving payments, performing related clerical tasks at Immokalee Community Park.
Monitors conduct and activities of park visitors; responds to disruptive, suspicious or medical situations; reports problems to appropriate personnel; initiates calls for police, fire, or emergency medical services as needed.
Coordinates operation of the County’s park facilities; performs customer service, office and/or cashier functions; opens/closes facilities; locks/unlocks doors; manages lights; monitors facilities; records visitor counts and daily usage; explains procedures, rules, and regulations; reports problems to park ranger.
Reviews and schedules/reserves park facilities for individuals or organizations.
Ensures cleanliness of offices and community center facilities; cleans, vacuums, waters floors; dusts fixtures; cleans counters; empties trash; freshens bathrooms; stocks supplies; maintains grounds; sweeps debris; cleans windows.
Provides first‑aid assistance to patrons as needed.
Child Care Responsibilities (if assigned)
Oversees the activities of children under supervision; supervises proper use, storage, and care of equipment and supplies.
Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors environment to ensure safety of children, employees, and others; adheres to DCF policies and procedures for childcare.
Reports major problems, concerns, and accidents to supervisors; prepares accident reports, discipline reports, attendance reports, DCF reports, and evaluation reports; maintains a daily sign‑in/sign‑out record of children.
Oversees after‑school and summer camp programs; creates an atmosphere of fun, cooperation, fairness, and learning.
Prepares weekly schedule of events for children; arrives on time preparing activities; monitors children pre‑bus arrival; provides fair discipline; monitors safety; mentors children; communicates with parents; records attendance; maintains sanitary conditions; organizes program supplies.
Adheres to rules, regulations, procedures on a daily basis; proper disciplinary procedures; equipment use; first aid and CPR; attendance at counselor meetings; proper use of timecards, reports, and forms.
Additional Functions
Monitors activities at park entrance; counts vehicles and pedestrians; checks cars for pets.
Inspects equipment for safety; makes minor repairs.
Orders and/or procures supplies for job tasks.
Prepares, copies, and distributes flyers, programs, calendars, and other information regarding park events; posts informational signs/flyers.
Prepares records and reports relating to use of park facilities.
Monitors inventory levels of forms, supplies, and materials; ensures availability; initiates requests for new/replacement materials; receives and distributes deliveries.
Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Must be sixteen (16) years of age.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Six (6) months of customer service experience preferred.
Fingerprinting required.
Licenses & Certifications
Must possess and maintain First Aid and CPR certifications.
May require possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Driver’s License with applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as per CMA 5805.
If assigned to childcare:
Must successfully complete a 40‑hour childcare class to comply with DCF policies within 90 days of hire.
Child Development Associate (CDA) preferred.
Salary and Miscellaneous
Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident‑by‑incident basis.
