The next Police Chief for Williston should be prepared to lead the Department and the Town inan environment that continues to be dynamic. Withongoing growth and change, especially in TaftCorners, policing matters related to dense urbanplaces will continue to be part of Williston’s reality.Over the next 25 years, policing in Williston willevolve to encompass the policing of urban publicspaces including urban parks, plazas, andsidewalks, added parking enforcement andstrengthened partnerships with local retail andindustrial businesses and nonprofits. Thisevolution will take place against a backdrop ofsteady growth, and aging population, and thecontinued welcoming of a diversity of residents atall levels of socioeconomic status to thecommunity. The next Chief must balance the needs of thegrowth center with those in the residential and ruralsections of Town, and recognize the holisticapproach to deploying public safety assets in amanner that serves all needs of the communitywithin the limitations of resource capacity.
