weekend
Supervising Producer for the WGN Evening News. This position plays a critical role in the daily success of the show and requires a collaborative, adaptable journalist with line‑producing experience. The right candidate may also serve as an Associate Producer multiple days during the week.
Duties/Responsibilities
Produce strong, compelling newscasts with a focus on accuracy, pacing, and storytelling.
Serve as a collaborative team player, working closely with other producers, the digital/web team, field crews, and the Assignment Desk to maximize newsroom resources and reflect the most important news of the day.
Write clear, captivating news teases and stories; review and edit writers’ scripts while maintaining editorial standards.
Contribute as an Associate Producer during the week and as needed, serving in a variety of roles including:
Fill‑in line producing
Booking for weekend or weekday evening shows
Field producing
Willingness to work holidays, and non‑traditional hours as newsroom coverage demands.
Demonstrate flexibility by filling in on other shifts, shows, or roles when staffing or breaking news requires.
Ability to meet tight deadlines, prioritize competing assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.
Requirements/Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communications or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience. Knowledge of the Chicago market is a plus.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Desktop editing skills preferred.
Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Leadership ability, positive attitude, flexibility, and creativity are essential.
Must be dependable, adaptable, and calm under pressure in breaking news situations.
Salary Range 70K to 80K Annualized – commensurate with applicant's experience and skill level
