Summary Client is seeking a UI/UX Designer 4 to support the Machine Display and Machine Experience teams. This role focuses heavily on UX research, human‑centered design, and evidence‑based decision‑making for heavy equipment user interfaces.
The UI/UX Designer will translate qualitative and quantitative research into actionable insights that inform interaction concepts, HMI design, and overall machine experience. This role partners closely with designers, engineers, product owners, and cross‑functional stakeholders to define, test, document, and hand off preferred user experiences for real‑world operating environments.
Key Responsibilities
Translate qualitative and quantitative research (usability tests, field studies, simulations) into prioritized UX insights and recommendations
Clarify operator, customer, and business needs to support safe, efficient, and intuitive machine operation
Integrate user research into product designs and design practices across physical‑digital systems
Facilitate and apply a variety of research methodologies to inform interaction concepts
Communicate prototype requirements and research findings with designers and cross‑functional teams
Document key UX goals, themes, behaviors, and design elements for downstream teams
Create shareable UX artifacts including journey maps, task flows, storyboards, experience maps, and mental models
Incorporate ergonomics and human‑factors considerations into UX research and synthesis
Document overall UX strategy, including UI principles, physical attributes, and guiding principles
Prioritize UX research needs and backlog based on the product roadmap
Support testing, iteration, documentation, and handoff of preferred user experiences
Collaborate with designers, product owners, engineers, analytics, software, hardware, and other UX teams
Stakeholder management and cross‑functional alignment are critical components of this role
Required Education & Experience
8+ years of experience in UX research with strong knowledge of user experience best practices
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Psychology, or a related UX field
Experience working in corporate or B2B environments
Portfolio demonstrating UX research expertise and ability to clearly articulate process and outcomes
Required Technical Skills
Strong understanding of UI best practices, UI design, and graphic design fundamentals
Experience and proficiency with UI layout, specifications, and prototyping tools
Experience conducting ergonomics and HMI research
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Demonstrated strengths in:
Empathy – capturing, synthesizing, and applying user and stakeholder insights
Adaptive Thinking – pivoting with changing requirements and viewing challenges as learning opportunities
Preferred Skills
Project management experience
Experience in automotive or adjacent industries
Choppy tenure or frequent job hopping
Candidates with only UX design experience without UX research expertise will not be considered
