IACUC Administration Executive Director (RSCH CMPLNC MGR 2)
Location: Davis, California, United States. Salary: $111,400.00 - $229,800.00 (salary grade 26). Shift: Monday‑Friday 8AM‑5PM (Hybrid work)
Job Summary Under general direction of the Executive Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Executive Director oversees the faculty‑based, federally mandated IACUC and the professional staff supporting this committee. The Executive Director is accountable for all IACUC functions, including operations, resource management, policy development, compliance, audits, and training, and serves as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and institutional leaders.
Department Overview The IACUC at UC Davis is a 25‑member faculty committee reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor for Research. It ensures that all animal research, teaching, and testing complies with federal and state laws and policies. The department operates within the Office of Research and has an approximate budget of $1.8 million.
Minimum Qualifications
Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) or equivalent AALAS certification at LATG level.
Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, public health, animal or environmental science or related field with at least 8 years of IACUC experience.
Proven supervisory and managerial experience with compliance review boards or committees.
Expert knowledge of the Federal Animal Welfare Act, Public Health Service Policy on Humane Use of Laboratory Animals, California Fish & Wildlife Code and other relevant regulations; ability to establish relationships with accrediting bodies and regulatory agencies.
Strong analytic, problem‑solving, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced AALAS certifications (LATG, CMAR) and experience in a research university animal care environment.
Experience with public record requests, training program development, and animal subjects protection.
Advanced degrees or certifications (RVT, CMAR, ILAM).
Time‑management and organizational skills to prioritize conflicting deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
60% – Campus Animal Care & Use Executive: oversee day‑to‑day animal care operations and policy compliance.
30% – IACUC & Program Administration: manage IACUC functions, audits, training, and accreditation.
10% – Management & Supervision: supervise staff and coordinate with institutional partners.
