Nibley Park Golf Course Superintendent

Job Description Reporting to the Golf Director, operates, maintains, and assists in the development and maintenance of a 9‑hole municipal golf course, with supervisory responsibilities and advanced technical knowledge in golf course design and maintenance. Incumbent exercises independent judgement and discretion in the performance of their duties and may be required to work non‑conventional hours and overtime during peak golf season.

Typical Duties

Plan, organize and implement the proper maintenance of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, trees, ornamental plants and lakes.

Direct total maintenance program, assigning tasks to subordinate personnel and evaluating their performance; interview, hire and discharge assigned employees.

Recommend and present budgets to the Golf Program Director and ensure correct administration; recommend and participate in selection of capital improvement projects.

Select and procure equipment, supplies and materials; ensure equipment is properly maintained and safely operated.

Analyze disease, insect and other turf grass stress problems and select appropriate fungicides, insecticides, fertilizers and other measures to resolve problems.

Maintain complex irrigation system for golf course; redesign and modify system as necessary; supervise electrical and plumbing repair of system.

Maintain records of maintenance activities, personnel, equipment, supplies and schedules, indicating application of pesticides, fungicides and fertilizers.

Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years post–high school study in Turf Management, Plant Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, Botany or related field with four (4) years experience in all phases of golf course management and turf culture; two (2) of those years must have been in a supervisory or lead capacity. Extensive practical experience may substitute formal education on a year-for-year basis.

Must possess a non‑commercial Pesticide Applicator’s license within six months of employment.

Thorough knowledge of methods, equipment, and materials used in constructing, developing and maintaining a golf course.

Must establish and maintain membership in the Intermountain Golf Course Superintendents’ Association upon employment.

Knowledge of United States Golf Association Rules and Regulations.

Possession of a valid driver’s license or driving privilege card.

Desired Qualifications

Accreditation as a Certified Golf Course Superintendent by the GCSAA.

Membership in the Golf Course Superintendents’ Association of America.

Working Conditions

Moderately heavy physical activity, including pushing, pulling, or lifting medium weights; requires standing, walking or sitting uncomfortably for extended periods.

Moderate exposure to elements such as heat, cold, dampness, fumes, noise, dust or grease; risk of bodily injury is moderate under normal conditions.

Intermittent exposure to stressful situations resulting from human behavior.

Position Type Full‑Time

Position Salary Range $71,000 – $79,123 annually
