Primary Purpose Direct and manage the overall PE program for the district. Work to provide students and staff opportunities to participate in health, P.E., and wellness activities. Ensure district compliance and opportunities for personal health and wellness.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Valid Texas teaching certificate with physical education endorsement

Knowledge of overall operations of various levels of P.E. and health programs (elementary, middle, and high school)

Knowledge of state guidelines governing P.E. and health programs

Ability to interpret policy, procedures and data

Ability to manage personnel and coordinate district function

Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Five years successful teaching and coaching experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Develop and provide P.E. and Health professional learning opportunities for staff throughout the year.

Direct and manage district P.E. program and make facility recommendations as needed.

Ensure P.E. participation requirements are met at elementary, middle, and high school levels.

Ensure Health curriculum requirements are met at elementary, middle, and high school levels.

Maintain an active program that promotes student physical development, health and wellness.

Ensure P.E. and Health lessons are input and maintained in Eduphoria.

Implement and collaborate with Learning & Teaching the Coordinated School Health plans as required by TEA.

Obtain and use data to determine program effectiveness so program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.

Assist campus administrators and teachers with P.E. and health curriculum, classroom instruction, assessment strategies, and district compliance.

Support teachers with the use of technology tools as they integrate into instruction with up-to-date software, apps, and devices.

Implementation and oversight of FitnessGram assessments as required by TEA.

Plan necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of departmental goals.

Assist with implementation of district student management practices in P.E. and Health classes.

Maintain professional and timely communication with parents, students, teachers, and campus administrators.

Implement federal law, state law, SBEC rules, and local policies established in the areas of P.E. and Health.

Compile, maintain, file, and present all reports, records, and other documents required.

Maintain a current inventory of district-provided supplies/equipment and recommend replacement equipment when necessary.

Assist with administrating the physical education budget.

Assist Human Resources and campus principals with screening P.E. and Health applicants.

Advise principals in hiring of P.E. and Health positions as needed.

Develop professional learning and/or improvement plans for employees to ensure exemplary performance in P.E. and/or Health classrooms.

Actively participate with the School Health Advisor Council (SHAC) as required by TEA.

Articulate the district’s mission and goals in the area of PE to community and support in realizing mission.

Demonstrate awareness of campus/district/community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.

Use appropriate and effective strategies to encourage community and parent involvement.

Coordinate and manage district-wide P.E. initiatives such as Reindeer Romp, 21 Day Challenge, Off-Campus P.E. programs, Jump Rope for Heart, and Go Red campaign.

All other duties assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities Assist with evaluation of P.E. and Health teachers in advisory role to campus principals. Department staff and athletic staff as assigned.

Equipment Used Personal computer, printer, copier, and fax machine.

Working Conditions Maintain emotional control under stress. Repetitive hand motions due to prolonged use of computer. Frequent district, area, and state travel to meetings and activities. Exposure to outside elements. 12-to-18-hour workdays. Must be able to lift and move large and heavy objects. Position requires frequent bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, overhead reaching, sitting, and keyboarding. Position requires the ability to lift 25 pounds to waist height.
