Senior Mechanical Engineer | Des Moines, IA | Remote Eligible IMEG is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Des Moines, IA. This position is remote eligible, with flexibility based on candidate location and team needs.

You will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for moderate to complex projects. In this role, you'll provide project direction, engineering solutions, and client-facing technical guidance while overseeing analysis, design, and implementation of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. You will also support budget accountability, help train and mentor others, and collaborate across disciplines to achieve project goals and positive client outcomes.

Principal Responsibilities

Lead design efforts for the analysis of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems

Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards

Perform site assessments and generate detailed analysis and technical reports

Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively

Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication

Provide in-process design reviews of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection system design, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence

Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirements

Provide technical training and mentoring, and provide technical assistance in resolution of field issues with limited support from senior staff

Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering; contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG

Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work; identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with mechanical systems

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals

Participate in project interviews and project presentations

Required Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, required

Professional Engineer (PE) License required

7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting industry

Advanced proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications

Advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems

Strong training, mentoring and leadership skills

Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise

Ability to sell work and develop client relationships

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Eagerness to adapt to new challenges

Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook

Travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays. This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
