Ophthalmic Assistant
Vance Thompson Vision is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team. The role involves performing patient workups, diagnostic tests, and supporting DME and clinical operations while upholding our commitment to exceptional patient and team experience.
Responsibilities
Perform patient workups and preliminary tests: visual acuity, patient history, lensometry, and other protocol‑mandated tests.
Administer additional diagnostic tests such as keratometry, topography, tonometry, pachymetry, and visual fields as directed.
Facilitate efficient patient flow by monitoring schedules, maintaining medical records, resolving schedule conflicts, and communicating with OD/MD as needed.
Triage patient phone calls, answer questions, and resolve concerns to achieve the highest satisfaction.
Maintain exam lanes – opening, closing, stocking, and organization of work areas.
Send prescriptions to pharmacies and handle prior authorization requests.
Participate in regular team meetings and report progress for effective inter‑department communication.
Engage in ongoing professional self‑development to enhance training and skills.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Prior patient care experience or completion of AAO home study preferred.
Strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and a positive attitude.
Ability to multitask, work well in a team, and anticipate patient needs.
