About the Role

The Fresh Market Director oversees all fresh food departments within the supermarket, including Bakery, Tortillería, Meat, Seafood, Cremería, Taquería, Guacamole, Juice Bar, Marisquería, Produce, Floral, Frutería, and Receiving. Fully accountable for performance, profitability, and compliance, this role ensures customer service excellence, operational efficiency, team development, and product quality. The Fresh Market Director collaborates closely with the Store Director, Center Store Director, Corporate, and Department Managers to maximize store profitability and deliver extraordinary customer experience. What You’ll Do

Lead performance, sales, and budgets across all Fresh Market departments. Control labor and expenses through effective scheduling and financial oversight. Oversee product ordering, inventory, and equipment maintenance. Walk departments daily with managers to ensure freshness, rotation, and quality. Enforce compliance with OSHA, Health Department, WIC, SNAP, ABC, COOL, and other regulations. Monitor security, protect company property, and ensure safe operations. Model Vallarta’s Nuestra CASA pledge, greeting customers and resolving escalated concerns. Build and develop strong management teams, mentor Department Managers. Ensure staffing, training, evaluations, and recognition of team contributions. Drive merchandising and product presentation strategies. Conduct audits and implement improvements based on performance metrics. Foster communication between departments, corporations, and vendors. Maintain accurate records, reports, and compliance paperwork. Cover for the Store Director or Center Store Director as needed. Stay informed on industry trends to maintain competitiveness. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements

Stand and walk constantly (6–8+ hours/day). Frequent bending (neck/waist), squatting, twisting, and reaching above/below shoulders. Frequent use of hands for grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation. Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 40 lbs. occasionally. Heaviest item to carry: 40 lbs. (bag of dog food). Operate manual pallet jacks and forklifts (buddy system required). Work near equipment and machinery with exposure to dust, gas, fumes, noise, and varying temperatures/humidity. What We’re Looking For

3–4 years of retail management experience (multi-department preferred). At least 2 years managing a multi-department team. Strong leadership, communication, and strategic problem-solving skills. Knowledge of fresh food operations, safety, and merchandising. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English. Ability to pass a criminal and credit check. Willingness to transfer to other store locations as needed. Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Fast-paced supermarket environment with direct customer interaction. Exposure to perishable products and changing conditions. Collaborative, team-oriented workplace. Must work flexible schedule: afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Full-Time Team Members
