Starting Salary: $68,616.00/Year
THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND ALL CURRENT CITY EMPLOYEES COVERED UNDER THE CITY'S COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT WITH AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. ONLY EMPLOYEES IN CITY JOB TITLES IN THIS BARGAINING UNIT ARE ELIGIBLE TO BID.
Location Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, 2102 West Ogden Avenue
Hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm
Responsibilities
Develop training materials and facilitate presentations on substance use prevention strategies for Deaf and Hard of Hearing youth in grades 6‑12 across Illinois.
Proactively conduct outreach to Deaf and Hard of Hearing programs in Illinois to identify teaching opportunities.
Prepare handouts to use in trainings and outreach and share with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community and the greater disability community.
Maintain records and prepare reports on community outreach and training/presentation activities.
Conduct research on topics related to substance use prevention for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing population and other disability‑related topics.
Promote MOPD programs and services on social media and newsletter communications.
Attend community meetings, resource fairs, expos, and events to inform residents of MOPD services and discuss community concerns.
Assist in coordinating MOPD community meetings and events.
Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons in American Sign Language (ASL) at beginner to advanced levels.
Promote awareness of Deaf culture, accessibility, and language equity.
Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in social sciences or a directly related field, plus two (2) years of community or social services experience. If the above criteria are not fulfilled, acceptable alternatives include:
Six (6) years of community or social services work experience.
Graduation from an accredited college with an associate's degree in social sciences or a directly related field, plus four (4) years of community or social service work experience.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree or higher in social sciences or a directly related field, plus one (1) year of community or social service work experience.
Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications:
A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required.
Selection Criteria This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the interview, will be selected.
Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).
Previous professional or lived experience with people with disabilities including Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Previous experience with curriculum development, education, training, and program evaluation.
Previous experience working with youth.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
