Principal UX Product Designer Role Summary: Are you a strategic, self-driven UX designer and leader who loves the challenge of turning complex problems and constraints into elegant solutions that meet customer needs? We are looking for a principal designer who leads by doing and solves problems at scale to transform our AI product landscape. Our work focuses on a large portfolio of transformational efforts across Thomson Reuters to make it easy to do business with us. Our customers range from small entrepreneurs to large corporations and government clients worldwide. As a Principal UX Product Designer, you will drive and implement AI design strategy across complex, AI-first applications and problem spaces by partnering with design teams, product stakeholders, and senior leadership. You will work at the intersection of user experience, product strategy, and applied AI, translating model capabilities into intuitive, trustworthy workflows. You will collaborate across design, engineering, product management, data science, and leadership throughout the product lifecycle to deliver high-impact experiences that simplify complex tasks. About the Role: In this role you will: Responsibilities and Focus Areas Strategic Design Leadership
Lead the end-to-end design of AI-powered experiences across multiple product lines, including agentic workflows, generative interactions, and human-in-the-loop systems Define and evangelize UX strategy across complex problem spaces, influencing product roadmaps and priorities Serve as a design thought leader for useful, usable, and desirable AI-powered products in a team environment Mentor designers and lead strategic thinking in ambiguous situations Contribute to internal design standards for AI patterns, guidelines, evaluation criteria, and UX quality benchmarks AI & Innovation
Translate model behaviors and system constraints into coherent UX patterns to drive trust and adoption Prototype with real AI/LLM models to evaluate prompts and inform product direction Design collaboration patterns between users and AI, defining when AI acts autonomously and how handoffs occur Create interaction flows with transparency moments, safety guardrails, override options, and recovery states Partner with data science and engineering to shape model requirements and align system behaviors with user needs Champion responsible AI principles including transparency, fairness, bias mitigation, and user empowerment Cross-Functional Collaboration & Influence
Collaborate with design, program, engineering, data science, and product teams from concept to solution, setting UX guidelines and producing assets for market Present solutions to design, product, engineering, and senior leadership; synthesize feedback and iterate accordingly Communicate design decisions clearly, influence senior stakeholders, and guide teams through evolving problem spaces Work with executives and teams across the organization to drive alignment on cross-organizational initiatives User-Centered Design & Research
Develop use cases and high-level requirements while defining UX strategy and user-centered designs from feedback, market analysis, and usability findings Partner with UX Research to run usability testing and AI-specific validation studies to understand mental models and trust Use qualitative and quantitative data to run evaluative studies for AI features (e.g., prompt quality, hallucination risk, trust signals) Iterate and evolve how we design and learn from customers Demonstrate systems-thinking across UI, data inputs, model constraints, and operational workflows Mentorship & Design Excellence
Mentor and coach designers to elevate design craft and strategic thinking Model best practices in design process, critique, and collaboration Identify opportunities to improve design operations, tools, and processes Leverage AI tooling and content standards to deliver clear, brand-aligned experiences Design accessible solutions and collaborate with the Accessibility team to ensure WCAG compliance About You

Principal UX Product Designer
if you have: Required Qualifications: Extensive design experience solving complex challenges with simple solutions Experience designing with AI or LLM technologies, including prompt design and generative UX Strong portfolio showing process, craft, and measurable results with end-to-end ownership of complex workflows Deep understanding of model behaviors and limitations (hallucinations, confidence levels, deterministic vs probabilistic output) Experience synthesizing feedback across product management, engineering, data science, and marketing Strong interaction design skills to simplify ambiguous AI behaviors into user-centered experiences Ability to prototype using tools such as v0, Figma Make, Cursor, Python notebooks, model sandboxes, or no-code AI orchestration tools Hands-on experience planning and executing end-to-end user research Familiarity with Agile development in high-velocity teams Ability to work in fast-paced, collaborative environments Strong time-management, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills with senior leadership Preferred Qualifications: Experience designing across product suites with complex workflows for niche customers Experience reducing silos by delivering interconnected solutions across products Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement designs in complex environments Experience delivering large-scope projects across organizational boundaries Bachelor's or Master's in design, HCI, or equivalent History of acquiring user data through usability studies and research Ability to design intuitive search, drafting, and review workflows for complex knowledge structures Comfort with model-evaluation tooling, analytics dashboards, and prompt/version-management systems Strength in shaping information architecture for large-scale content ecosystems Familiarity with domain-heavy environments (tax, legal, compliance, risk, finance) and translating complexity into usable experiences Experience shipping zero-to-one products and iterating through ambiguity Track record of mentoring designers and elevating design practice #LI-DS4 What's in it For You?
