Senior Director, Enterprise Applications (Deputy to the AVP)

Position Summary The University of Virginia (UVA) seeks an experienced and highly capable leader to serve as Senior Director for Enterprise Applications, operating as Deputy to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) during a two-year period of institutional transformation. As the AVP assumes concurrent leadership responsibilities in support of the university’s OneUVA Workday transition, the Senior Director will provide day-to-day leadership and management across key areas of the Enterprise Applications portfolio. This role will ensure operational excellence, sustained strategic progress, and strong partnership with stakeholders across the university. Reporting to the AVP, the Senior Director will lead designated teams and serve as a senior representative of the portfolio in institutional forums, as delegated. This role will act as an integrator across stakeholders, systems, and priorities to ensure coordinated execution and will play a critical role in advancing the AVP’s strategic vision through strong relationship management and influence.

This is a two year limited term position with funding ending January 2028.

Responsibilities Leadership & People Management

Collaborate closely with the AVP to ensure technical leadership aligns with architectural vision and institutional frameworks

Directly manage assigned enterprise application teams and/or directors

Provide clear expectations, coaching, and accountability to ensure high performance

Maintain team stability, engagement, and effectiveness during enterprise transformation

Support recruitment, talent development, and succession planning

Operational Oversight

Oversee reliable and secure operation of enterprise Student, Document Imaging, and Admissions systems

Ensure performance of integrations, infrastructure platforms, and enterprise data environments

Provide oversight of student success platforms such as Stellic, focusing on integrations and data flow

Partner with Infrastructure, Security, and other ITS units to ensure coordinated service delivery

Manage escalations, major incidents, and complex operational issues

Monitor service levels, performance metrics, and overall risk posture

Strategic Initiative Execution

Sponsor and lead high-priority enterprise application initiatives

Ensure progress on ERP optimization, enterprise data warehouse efforts, and student systems enhancements

Translate strategic vision into actionable plans and measurable outcomes

Provide executive-level analysis and decision support on priorities and trade-offs

Lead and support change management efforts tied to enterprise transformation

Stakeholder Engagement

Serve as senior liaison to Enrollment, Institutional Reporting and Analytics, and academic partners

Represent ITS in advisory bodies and cross-functional governance forums

Drive alignment across distributed schools and units with differing priorities

Build and sustain strong relationships within a shared governance environment

Communicate proactively regarding system priorities, risks, and changes

Financial & Risk Stewardship

Support budget oversight, vendor management, and investment prioritization

Evaluate business cases, resource impacts, and implementation risks

Ensure alignment with data security, compliance, and regulatory requirements

Minimum Qualifications Education:

Bachelor’s degree required

Experience:

8-10+ years of progressive leadership experience in enterprise applications, demonstrated success managing large, complex technical teams, significant experience with ERP systems (HR, Finance, and/or Student), integrations, reporting, and security, proven ability to lead through change while maintaining operational stability

Experience with Workday or comparable enterprise systems; experience in higher education or similarly complex, shared governance environments

Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary position. The employee will be required to sit for extended periods and routinely use standard office equipment such as computers. Occasional walking and light lifting may be required.

Position Type & Work Location This is a full‑time, benefited position. This is a two‑year appointment aligned with a period of institutional transformation. Work arrangement is hybrid, with an expectation of regular presence on UVA Grounds in Charlottesville, VA.
