Director of Building Systems – Job Description
As Director of Building Systems, you will serve as a strategic and technical leader responsible for ensuring the integrity, efficiency, and compliance of building infrastructure across a diverse portfolio of hotels. Acting as a vital bridge between development strategy and on-the-ground engineering execution, you will guide projects from concept through completion while upholding Hyatt’s global standards.
This role blends technical expertise with stakeholder collaboration, enabling you to influence how our hotels are designed, built, and operated—ensuring they deliver exceptional performance, sustainability, and guest experiences.
This position is based in
Zurich, Switzerland , with a start date of September 2026.
Responsibilities
Champion Hyatt’s technical standards by ensuring all properties meet brand requirements across MEP systems, fire and life safety, and technology guidelines
Lead the technical lifecycle of projects, including new builds, conversions, and renovations—from initial planning agreements through construction and final commissioning
Drive sustainability initiatives across the portfolio, advancing energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and certification efforts such as LEED or Energy Star
Serve as the primary technical advisor to owners, developers, architects, and consultants, ensuring alignment and successful delivery of key milestones
Oversee the transition from construction to operations, ensuring building systems are fully functional and hotel teams are equipped for ongoing maintenance and performance
Conduct site visits and provide expert guidance throughout development phases, supporting quality assurance and brand compliance
Collaborate within a global, matrixed environment, partnering with regional and corporate teams to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering; advanced degrees such as an MBA are a plus
5–10 years of experience in hotel engineering, technical services, or a related field, ideally within international or luxury hospitality environments
Strong technical expertise in Building Management Systems (BMS), HVAC, vertical transportation, and fire and life safety standards (e.g., NFPA)
Demonstrated experience managing complex development projects across multiple phases
Professional engineering licensure or sustainability credentials (e.g., LEED AP) preferred
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to balance diverse stakeholder priorities
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment
Willingness to travel extensively (approximately 60–80%) to support projects across the region
