POSITION PURPOSE The Middle School Band Director is responsible for instruction and supervision of school students in the field of instrumental music and creating a safe and orderly learning environment. The Band Director motivates students to develop an interest in and an appreciation for the art of music. The Band Director develops knowledge, skills, and talents of students in the field of music, utilizing a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to students' interests and abilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Demonstrate motivation and enthusiasm with a genuine passion for teaching young learners
Teaches courses in vocal music/choir utilizing the district-adopted course of study and other appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines
Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for the school and community
Organizes storage areas and controls the use of materials and equipment to prevent loss, abuse, injury, or security breach
Provides maximum participation for all students; differentiates as needed to ensure all students experience success
Develops lesson plans to teach a balanced instrumental music program with relevant materials and activities designed to encourage skill development and positive interpersonal relationships
Develops engaging and effective lesson plans and supplementary materials
Provides ongoing formative feedback to students
Demonstrates a growth mindset and supports this development with all students
Communicates in developmentally appropriate ways with a humane, sensitive approach that conveys every child can succeed
Provides support for school-wide assemblies
Supports a strong positive culture and learning environment
Works cooperatively with team members, parents, community members, and partners to improve the instructional program and student success
Effectively uses technology to support instruction and student learning
Supervises students in and out of the classroom
Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities
Maintains appropriate licenses and training hours as required
Complies with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations
Adheres to all Indiana Administrative Rules related to licensed educators
QUALIFICATIONS
B.A./B.S. degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field teaching
Indiana certification in teaching in appropriate subject area (Instrumental Music)
Preferred candidate will have multiple endorsements on their secondary license
Preferred candidate should have secondary level teaching experience
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program
Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology
Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district and state
