Overview

Virginia Housing Alliance’s (VHA) AmeriCorps VISTA program is a statewide intermediary initiative with host sites working to expand affordable housing opportunities and strengthen housing stability throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. The program promotes integrated approaches that help communities provide safe housing, healthy living environments, and economic opportunity for low- and moderate-income households. This listing is to fill the Host Site opening at Rebuilding Together Richmond (RT RVA) in Richmond, VA. This service opportunity supports Rebuilding Together Richmond (RT RVA), a nonprofit dedicated to preserving affordable homeownership and revitalizing communities through critical home repairs. RT RVA serves low-income seniors, veterans, families with children, and individuals with disabilities, helping them remain safely housed and avoid displacement. The Community Engagement Specialist VISTA will build on prior capacity efforts by strengthening outreach, volunteer engagement, and partnership systems. The member will expand referral networks, develop structured engagement strategies, and create tools that improve coordination with housing organizations, businesses, and community groups. The VISTA will also develop storytelling and communication materials that elevate homeowner, volunteer, and partner experiences to support recruitment, community awareness, and partnership growth. In addition, they will improve data collection and reporting processes to better track program outcomes and communicate impact to stakeholders. Through this project, the VISTA will strengthen RT RVA’s role in Richmond’s housing stability network while building sustainable systems for engagement, partnerships, and impact measurement.

Member Duties

The Community Engagement Specialist VISTA will strengthen RT RVA’s organizational capacity by expanding community outreach, volunteer engagement, and partnership systems that support safe and healthy housing. The VISTA member will help expand community referral networks, develop volunteer engagement strategies, and strengthen collaboration with businesses and community organizations. The VISTA will assist staff in developing tools that improve volunteer recruitment, training, and communication while also supporting storytelling efforts that highlight homeowner, volunteer, and community partner experiences. The member will help strengthen data tracking systems, develop outreach resources, and improve how RT RVA communicates its impact to partners and stakeholders.
