This position reports to:
Product Marketing Manager
The successful candidate will operate as the Product Specialist for the Electrification business of ABB. In this role you will be the technical lead at consulting engineers, end users (mainly Utilities), System Integrators, and EPC, ensuring ABB products and solutions achieve a preferred/acceptable manufacturer status in project specifications. The Product Specialist will be tightly integrated with the local Utility sales team and must have proficiency applying Grid Components in the utility distribution market.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with consultants, utilities, and EPC engineers to define project needs, provide design assistance, product selection, value engineering, budgeting, and promote ABB solutions for inclusion in project specifications.
Review and interpret project specifications and customer requirements to develop electrical solutions for medium-voltage grid applications, including one-line diagrams, schematics, layouts, equipment specifications, and budgetary pricing.
Serve as the local product expert on Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), protection relays, centralized protection software, and other digital substation products, with working knowledge of electrical distribution networks and substations.
Support customer engagement and education, including homologation processes, pilot projects, technical presentations, Lunch & Learns, and participation in industry events to promote solutions and thought leadership.
Provide market and project insights by conducting technical, risk, and financial project analyses, communicating customer feedback and market trends to leadership, managing CRM updates (SFDC), and traveling to support customer engagements.
Minimum Qualifications
Strong technical and communication skills with the ability to explain complex power systems concepts to engineers, account managers, contractors, and channel partners while building strong professional relationships.
Self-motivated problem solver with a customer development mindset, capable of learning ABB products/solutions and communicating their value propositions effectively.
Highly organized and self-directed, able to manage multiple priorities, set objectives independently, and provide technical support across internal and external stakeholders.
Education and experience: B.S. in Engineering (preferably Electrical) with 5+ years of electrical distribution industry experience, or a Master’s degree with 4+ years of experience, along with strong interpersonal and English communication skills.
Preferred qualifications: PE certification, prior experience in electrical power systems (utilities, oil & gas, or industrial facilities), and knowledge of industry codes and standards such as ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, NFPA 70E, and UL.
