
Genetic Counseling Assistant (On-site)

Job Summary
Responsible for supporting genetic counselors’ clinical activities and research studies, often acting as the first point of contact for patients seeking genetic counseling services. Supports genetic counselors, investigators, project managers, and other research staff on a variety of current research projects. Works under the supervision of the clinical and research personnel as required.
Responsibilities
Assist with genetic testing coordination and result disclosure for both clinical and research testing, communicating genetic screening/testing results to both patients and providers.
Collect relevant clinical information, triage incoming referrals, prepare documentation for genetic counseling use, and assist in patient scheduling to ensure appropriate referrals for genetic counseling.
Collect relevant personal and family history information and document pedigrees in the electronic health record.
Assist genetic counselors in day‑to‑day clinical activities and administrative tasks to support efficient clinical workflows.
May assist in coordinating a multidisciplinary clinic, including scheduling, appointment confirmations, collating patient records for clinicians to review, presenting patients in monthly meetings, coordinating with procedure scheduling, and facilitating appointments to other clinics.
Assist the principal investigators in day‑to‑day project activities such as maintaining study documentation and attending study meetings, under the supervision of a principal investigator.
Complete data management tasks guided by written protocols and update protocols as needed; conduct data analysis under the supervision of a genetic counselor.
Assist with participant recruitment, ongoing participant engagement, and follow‑up.
Conduct literature searches and fact‑finding research to support project development; may assist with qualitative data analysis, research abstracts and manuscripts, and with participant correspondence and newsletters.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required; strong interest in pursuing graduate level academic training in Genetic Counseling or a related health field.
Preferred undergraduate coursework: at least three courses in biology (including general genetics), one course in psychology, and one course in general statistics.
Demonstrated moderate to advanced computer skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of basic research methodology and data collection preferred.
Knowledge of basic genetic concepts and familiarity with genetic counseling practices and terminology.
Ability to work independently and manage task prioritization effectively.
Strong interpersonal skills, including clear and sensitive communication with patients, families, referring clinicians, and research colleagues.
Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to professional growth.
