The Idaho Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Region 5 office is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, dynamic business person to serve as Senior Business Consultant for Southeast Idaho, located in Pocatello, Idaho. Idaho State University hosts this position and it reports directly to the SBDC Region 5 Director. The Senior Business Consultant works with clients on varying business needs such as financial pro forma statements, business plans, break-even analysis, management structure, organizational development, marketing (including a wide variety of channels and approaches), patents/trademarks, lease agreements, bidding tools, assessment of 8 key business functions, among other small business issues. Note: This position will NOT focus on economic development and is not concerned with moving large businesses to the area, working on strategic planning of the regional economy, and will rarely if ever work directly with political leaders on economic issues. This position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship at this time. Candidates who already hold valid U.S. work authorization may be considered. Key Responsibilities
Consult with local small business owners to identify and provide solutions to problem areas with the goal of enhancing profitability and growth. Analyze business needs in the service area and develop training topics to meet those needs. Promote SBDC services across the region through outreach, partnerships, and marketing efforts. Local travel required; occasional overnight travel for training, statewide meetings & national ASBDC conference. Developing and hosting business trainings, organization of annual business symposium, and strategic outreach for the SBDC. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a relevant field. In place of a bachelor's degree, a minimum of six (6) years combined training, education, and experience may be considered. Five (5) years of experience in one or more of the following: small business ownership, business management, lending, business consulting and/or business ownership. Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following topics: business management, accounting, finance, marketing, strategic planning, operations, among other business topics. Knowledge of resources available to help small businesses including economic development at the local and state level. Skills in consulting, problem solving, and computer literacy. Must possess a valid driver's license with access to reliable transportation. Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to help other firm owners improve business outcomes. Experience working with universities or government-funded programs.
