Architectural Designer

The Architectural Designer shall provide engineering services supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright‑Patterson AFB (WPAFB).

Duties and Responsibilities

Design services, when required by the customer, including design calculations, layouts, detailed specifications, and parts lists and estimates.

Translate customer concepts or rough sketches into practical equipment items that can be economically manufactured.

Provide information on required parts, covering material composition, dimensions, electrical and safety characteristics, procurement sources, and cost.

Produce workable designs from rough sketches or verbal descriptions, including mechanical components for high‑speed rotating machinery, lightweight structures with sophisticated manufacturing and assembly procedures, aerospace material applications (turbine and ramjet engines), hardware for high‑pressure/high‑temperature applications, control and measurement instrumentation, electronic noise shielding, high‑power and high‑voltage protection, and laboratory space.

Ensure all tasks are designed for ease of maintenance, assembly, and reliability.

Assist in delivering support for future contractual efforts for fabrication, modification, or installation of research equipment or facilities.

Maintain all designs and related engineering information using the appropriate CAD/CAE or Microsoft Office Platform software.

Complete annual company and customer‑required training as required.

Complete timesheets daily in an online system according to company policies and procedures.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in an engineering field from an ABET‑accredited program.

8+ years of technical experience.

Must be a U.S. citizen.

Background check and Public Trust/NACI required to start.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proficient with CAD/CAE or Microsoft Office Platform software.

Advanced working knowledge of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Ability to comply with applicable codes and standards of contract.

Ability to pass customer security requirements.

Ability to attend all customer in‑person meetings and conferences as required.

Ability to self‑start and work independently or as a team.

Ability to interact verbally and in writing with all levels of staff, government personnel, and management professionally.

Possess strong problem‑solving skills.

Travel up to 10% as required.
