Associate Director Engineering (Facilities)
Lilly is currently constructing an advanced manufacturing facility for production of API molecules located in Houston, TX. This facility is intended to provide APIs for current and future products, including new modalities. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the site technical team for the startup of a greenfield manufacturing site, and the successful candidate will help to build the organization, the facility and the culture to enable a successful startup into GMP manufacturing operations. The Associate Director Engineering (Facilities) is responsible for leading the strategic planning, development, and execution of all aspects related to facilities management of the Houston API Manufacturing. The role provides leadership and direction to the overall site facilities in coordination with the engineering and maintenance groups within the site engineering organization. The Associate Director Facilities ensures that site maintenance and reliability deliverables are sufficiently resourced and qualified to support the API Manufacturing including Small Molecule and Oligonucleotide production goals and business agenda. In the project delivery phase and startup phase of the project, leadership roles will be fluid and dynamic as we endeavor to support the project delivery, build a new organization, develop and implement the necessary systems and business processes required to support GMP operations, and build the site culture. This will require significant collaboration, creativity and resilience as the site grows to a full scale GMP manufacturing through start up. Responsibilities: Responsible for supervising and coaching site facilities engineers and other staff, including completing performance reviews and development planning. Delivering site facility services and their supporting systems and operations. Manage external contracts, resources as well as internal technical and project management resources, as required. Provide site facilities maintenance work coordination in support of all manufacturing areas and site objectives and provide maintenance input to key functional groups and partners. Ensure site facilities maintenance planning, scheduling, and work completion meet the site business needs. In coordination with engineering and maintenance function, set and reinforce standards for building maintenance and reliability into the overall site facilities. Ensure compliance with corporate maintenance and reliability performance expectations (PM execution performance, reliability roadmap, etc.). Actively work within the global engineering/Engineering Tech Center network to ensure alignment with corporate initiatives and utilization of best practices. Support site governance through participation, influence and leadership in cross functional meetings and initiatives. Develop and maintain metrics to measure performance against business objectives and make necessary changes to improve performance. Specifically, during the startup phase of the Houston API site leadership will be expected to be collaborative, inclusive, and support the broader team to: Build the organization with the necessary capability, capacity, and culture to operate this facility to the highest standards of operational excellence. Develop and implement the systems and processes needed to run the site, leveraging existing Lilly knowledge and practices where necessary, but also incorporating external experiences and learning. Ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence by supporting lean principles in their respective area. Support the project team as they deliver the facility to the site team, by providing feedback and support. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in relevant field (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering preferred) 3+ years' experience in leadership role supporting manufacturing, preferably in an API or chemical manufacturing facility. Additional Skills/Preferences: Ability to collaborate with a team, make independent decisions, and influence diverse groups. Ability to instill teamwork within the department and demonstrate key interpersonal skills. Ability to provide innovative solutions to plant, divisional, and corporate issues, and leverage ideas from other functional areas.
