Job Summary
The Executive Director shall lead through vision and values while overseeing all day‑to‑day operations of the community, including team member relations, resident and family services, resident well‑being, vibrant activities, quality assurance, financial management, regulatory compliance, and all other aspects of community operations.
Responsibilities
- Run the operations of the business as if it were your own, with strong business acumen across all departments.
- Recruit, train, hire, and evaluate department managers, including scheduling, staffing, performance, and disciplinary actions.
- Communicate clearly, fairly, and confidently, maintaining composure during stressful situations.
- Partner with department heads to ensure efficient operations and uphold MorningStar standards.
- Act as a servant‑leader, placing the needs of others first and guiding team members toward high performance.
- Collaborate with the Sales and Marketing Director to lead the community’s sales culture.
- Prepare and submit required reports to the company.
- Represent the community with government agencies and private partners.
- Observe operations daily to ensure compliance with MorningStar standards and walk the community.
- Maintain daily presence in the dining area to ensure quality dining and resident satisfaction.
- Ensure compliance with policies for resident care, HR, finance, public relations, and physical plant maintenance.
- Accompany surveyors and consultants during inspections, review deficiencies, and submit corrective plans.
- Support annual performance reviews for staff with department heads.
- Protect resident confidentiality while providing required information to authorized agencies.
- Maintain contact with residents and families.
- Ensure supplies and equipment are available, stored, and functional.
- Participate in committees and ensure minutes and reports are maintained.
- Plan, execute, and oversee volunteer program and outreach initiatives.
- Use expense management systems and other required tools for department managers.
- Lead daily stand‑ups, weekly department head meetings, safety meetings, and monthly inter‑departmental meetings.
Qualifications

- At least 3 years of Executive Director or equivalent senior‑living experience.
- Strong competency in financial planning, budgeting, and expense management.
- Human Resources: staffing, development, and employment policy oversight.
- Building maintenance, presentation, and operational readiness.
- Facilitation of a sales culture.
- Compliance with clinical requirements and best practices.
- Culinary excellence and resident‑family engagement.
- Leadership evidenced by serving‑leader style, approachability, fairness, clear communication, confidence, and enthusiasm.
- Passion for working with seniors and a vibrant team.
- College degree preferred; experience may substitute.
- Continuing education and licensure as required by state.
- Expertise in dementia care, senior care, safety, and community leadership.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new applications.
- Time‑management skills to handle multiple priorities; availability for weekends, evenings, and on‑call 24/7.
