Job Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Project Director to lead engineering project delivery efforts in Charlotte, North Carolina. This role offers the opportunity to oversee a diverse portfolio of projects within the process, energy, and chemical industries while guiding high-performing project management teams and building strong client relationships.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience managing complex engineering projects, a strong business mindset, and proven leadership capabilities to drive successful project outcomes and organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead overall engineering project delivery, ensuring alignment with established best practices, procedures, and performance expectations
- Manage a portfolio of projects, ensuring delivery within scope, schedule, budget, and contractual requirements
- Drive financial performance, including achieving as-sold margins and cash flow objectives
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to project managers and project teams
- Support talent development initiatives, including recruiting, training, and performance management of project personnel
- Foster strong relationships with existing clients and support business development efforts to expand services and secure new work
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop project strategies, execution plans, and proposals
- Participate in contract and change order negotiations
- Ensure effective coordination across multiple engineering disciplines and vendor partners
- Promote continuous improvement of project management processes and standards
- Represent the organization at client meetings and industry events
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 15 years of industry experience, including at least 10 years in project management
- Demonstrated experience managing small to large capital projects in the process, energy, or chemical industries
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage vendor relationships from project initiation through commissioning
- Experience managing teams of 5+ professionals
- Strong business acumen with a track record of delivering positive financial outcomes
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to operate effectively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
