The Taxable Fixed Income Senior Research Associate supports the process of obtaining, organizing and analyzing Residential Mortgage Whole Loans for the Taxable Fixed Income market-related information from internal and external sources. Working under general supervision, this job monitors, researches and analyzes markets and trends to support investment decisions and optimize Taxable Fixed Income business.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Daily proactive management of loan acquisition process, including liaising with clients, coordinating with key internal partners, third parties, loan servicers.
- Evaluating analytics supporting pricing activity and best-ex analysis.
- Completing pricing analyses and coordinating all steps needed for an efficient and timely closing of each deal.
- Respond efficiently and effectively to client and internal inquiries.
- Evaluate and underwrite new originator opportunities and manage onboarding process.
- Coordinate origination and closing process end-to-end, including receipt of all necessary documentation from clients and due diligence to review investments.
- Perform detailed collateral analysis on all residential mortgages.
- Use stratifications and other reporting tools to effectively convey pool characteristics, concentrations, distributions, and risks. Proactively determine missing, incomplete, and inaccurate information.
- Assist with the underwriting development process, including identifying thorough financial packages for underwriting purposes, proactively identifying and solutioning potential underwriting issues, and detailed credit risk analysis.
- Respond to data quality questions and research/resolve all issues.
- Reporting and tracking whole loan pipeline management and trading.
- Perform ad hoc reporting as needed on the Securitized Products Research team.
- Promote a culture of innovation by continuously challenging the staff to seek out process improvement initiatives, automation enhancements and idea generation to ensure the transactions are being run optimally.
- Surveil and optimize database management and reporting between multiple source data.
- Identify and structure mortgage loan opportunities during conversations with clients, originators and/or other integrated team members.
- Partner with senior Mortgage Specialists to market and promote Nuveen mortgage solutions platform including commercialization of whole loan investment strategies.

- Minimum 2+ years of experience in fixed income research and investments
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in securitized products loan-level analysis
- Background in residential mortgage investing or analytics is strongly preferred
- Proficiency in industry-standard tools including Excel, Bloomberg, INTEX, and Yieldbook
- Database management skills and/or some coding experience is a plus
