Who are we hiring?
The Director of Engineering will assist in overseeing the operation and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and life‑safety building systems at MSG Sphere. Reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering, the Director will manage a team of venue electricians and engineers and administer complex service and maintenance assignments of critical infrastructure to support a 20,000‑guest entertainment venue.
What will you do?
- Direct, manage, and develop the engineering and electrical departments at MSG Sphere with an emphasis on safety, work rule and code compliance, and cost efficiency. Manage a self‑sufficient internal preventive maintenance program to operate and support the physical plant.
- Ensure adherence to and compliance of all city, county, state, federal, fire, building, and safety codes while providing a comfortable environment for all guests, employees, and clients at MSG Sphere.
- Monitor all utility services for MSG Sphere while developing and executing energy‑efficient strategies and programs. Maintain, track, and report on utility costs.
- Oversee maintenance materials, spare parts, and equipment inventory and cost control.
- Establish standard operating procedures, quality of work protocols, and ensure proper training of staff.
- Manage established service contracts for new equipment including generators, fuel systems, gas boosters, heat‑trace systems, steam plant control systems, chemical treatment stations, dewatering pumps, and cooling towers.
- Manage the operation and care of water supply and waste systems including domestic hot, cold, and condenser water, and water softening systems.
- Manage the operation and care of all fire safety and suppression systems, including the class E alarm system, fire pumps, sprinklers, standpipes, VESDA, and kitchen hood exhaust suppression systems.
- Direct the operation and care of all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems including steam plant, compressed air systems, hot water radiation, packaged and CRAC air conditioning systems, and cooling towers.
- Manage regular testing and preventive maintenance of emergency generators and life‑safety systems.
- Alongside the Senior Director of Engineering plan, develop and track department budgets related to operating costs, internal labor, and all maintenance programs.
- Forecast expansion workshops for MEP infrastructure modifications and enhancements to align with industry standards.
What do you need to succeed?
- Progressive experience managing physical plant operations in a public assembly facility over 500,000 SF.
- Minimum 5 years as an Assistant Chief or Building Manager with a strong technical background in electrical and/or mechanical engineering.
- Comprehensive knowledge of electrical distribution and switchgear.
- Knowledge of all applicable building and fire codes. Must hold valid EPA 608 and NFPA 70E certifications.
- Extensive knowledge in Building Automation System operation and analysis.
- Experience as a fire safety director and/or a related role operating a class E fire alarm system.
- Proven track record of successfully and directly managing a team of electricians, mechanics, and operating engineers in a complex, fast‑paced, and diverse environment (preferably in a live event venue).
- Ability to manage multiple outside contractors and vendors.
- Ability to read and mark up technical drawings including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and architectural plans, one‑line drawings, and riser plans.
- Must have completed OSHA‑10 training (candidates with OSHA‑30 certificate preferred).
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact across all levels of the organization.
- PC skills including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Professional, and Bluebeam.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required. May have split days off.
- Candidates who have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours of college‑level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self‑development through certifications, trade school or coursework from a reputable source is preferred.
Special Requirements
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at height (upwards of 200‑300 ft.) on interior and exterior catwalks.
- Extensive standing, walking, keyboard usage and general administrative duties.
- Required to have completed the OSHA 30‑Hour training course.

Pay Range
$113,000 — $195,000 USD
