The Fiscal Affairs Department (FAD) of the International Monetary Fund is seeking qualified candidates with proven expertise on fiscal issues related to public expenditure to fill a vacancy in the Expenditure Policy Division (EPD) as an Economist/Sr. Economist in Washington, D.C.FAD's EP Division undertakes policy development and research, provides operational support to area departments, and technical assistance to member countries on various public expenditure policy issues and their fiscal and macroeconomic implications. Topics covered by the division include: public expenditure efficiency; the distributional impact of fiscal policies; social protection policies; subsidies and subsidy reform; macro-fiscal sustainability of social security systems and pension system reform; macro-fiscal aspects of health expenditure; macro-fiscal aspects of education expenditure; the costs of achieving the Sustainable Development Goal; public investment and management of the public wage bill.The selected candidate will contribute to the division's analytical and technical assistance work on the public finances of public investment, the public wage bill, education, health, social protection, subsidies, and the SDGs. Strong specialist skills in one of these areas would be an advantage.**Qualifications**The candidate should have an advanced university degree in economics, public policy or relevant field, with at least four (4) years of relevant, professional experience.The successful candidate is also expected to have a solid research or operational background in public spending issues. A proven track record of written publications, papers, reports, or other documents in this area is required. The selected candidate should possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English; an ability to work in Spanish and/or French would be desirable but is not essential.
