Executive Director of Exceptional Programs
Location: Clarke County School District Central Office, Athens, Georgia
Job Summary
The Executive Director of Exceptional Programs oversees the district’s special education, ESOL, and Gifted programs and services. This role provides guidance, serves as a resource, and ensures that special education, ESOL, and Gifted services are effective and compliant with established guidelines. The Executive Director is responsible for planning, evaluating, developing, and implementing strategies to meet specific educational objectives and ensure that all services support the needs of students eligible for exceptional programs.
Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree in Special Education
Certification / License: Hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Leadership Certificate; Criminal Justice Fingerprint; Background Clearance
Work Experience: Three (3) years of leadership experience; Minimum of three (3) years of classroom teaching experience with exceptional children
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Skills-based Competencies: operate standard office equipment, including software applications; plan and manage projects; prepare and maintain accurate records.
Knowledge-based Competencies: laws, codes, policies; personnel processes; program planning; instructional procedures; safety practices; conflict resolution; curriculum, assessment procedures and data collection.
Ability-based Competencies: schedule activities, gather and analyze data; adapt to changing priorities; communicate effectively; work as part of a team.
Essential Duties
- Collaborates with internal and external personnel to implement and maintain special education services and programs.
- Compiles data from staff and public agencies for compliance and program monitoring.
- Coordinates program components, support needs, and materials to ensure guideline compliance.
- Directs department operations and new program implementation to meet timeframes and standards.
- Facilitates meetings, workshops, and seminars, including due process hearings and parent groups.
- Implements programs and projects to meet educational objectives.
- Manages the Special Education, ESOL, and Gifted Education departments.
- Monitors financial activities, including budget allocations and expenditures.
- Participates in meetings and seminars to convey and gather information.
- Performs personnel functions such as interviewing and supervising staff.
- Prepares complex materials like plans, budgets, and reports.
- Presents information on budgets and accounting processes to stakeholders.
- Researches topics such as policies and regulations.
- Responds to issues from staff or community and implements solutions.
- Oversees professional development for special education personnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Position Type and Salary
Full‑Time. Salary: $97,694.80 to $143,659 per year.
