Job Summary
The Director of Development, Major Gifts is responsible for the identification, qualification, solicitation and stewarding of prospects and donors at the major gift level ($100,000+). Assigned to specific areas of the hospital, the role cultivates meaningful relationships with clinical partners and works with these teams to engage patient families and external affiliates to discuss opportunities for philanthropic partnership. The Director works closely with the Executive Director of Major and Planned Gifts and contributes to hospital-wide efforts to solicit support for capital projects, unrestricted support, and other top priorities identified by Foundation leadership.
Job Specific Duties
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 150 prospects with capacity to make a 6-figure gift, meeting annual fundraising goals and expectations.
- Serve as a liaison for fundraising in assigned areas, partnering closely with hospital leadership and multidisciplinary teams to secure major gifts from families of patients and donors inspired by innovative clinical, research, and family support initiatives.
- Increase philanthropic awareness via physician
ursing/support staff orientations, one‑on‑one medical staff meetings, and maintaining a presence in the clinical units. - Partner with volunteer leadership to attract volunteers and manage volunteer committee(s) comprised of individuals willing to give and advocate on behalf of the hospital.
- Develop collaborative relationships within the Individual Giving team and across the entire Foundation.
- Provide stewardship in recognition of donor philanthropy.
- Provide timely and accurate updates of major gift activity and fundraising results; continuously update the NXT database with actions, move management, etc.
- Collaborate with the Gift Planning Office to complete gift arrangements that require tax or estate planning.
- Assist in managing special campaigns, corporate and foundation support through the Foundation’s available programs; staff Foundation events and external events for representation and networking.
- Develop collaborative relationships within the frontline fundraising team and across the entire Foundation.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, or a related field.
- At least three (3) years of development or fundraising experience.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- At least one (1) year of patient or healthcare‑related fundraising experience—preferred.
- Previous experience in 6‑figure gifts from individual donors—preferred.
- Broad knowledge and skills related to donor cultivation.
- Advanced proficiency with customer relationship management software (Salesforce, Donorforce, Raiser's Edge).
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
- Professionalism, judgment, and decisiveness to inspire confidence among prospects and donors.
- Ability to write and speak persuasively.
- Strong relationship‑building skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
