
Director of Pharmacy

As a full time, exempt Director of Pharmacy, you will oversee all pharmacy operations including planning, organizing, controlling, and supervising activities, according to hospital policies, standards of practice of the profession, and state and federal laws. You will recommend innovations in the practice and function of the pharmacy to hospital administration and carry out mutually agreed upon programs with assistance from a full support team.
Schedule: This full-time, exempt position will work at least 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:00pm, and on‑call as needed.
Locations: Memorial Hospital of Gardena has 173 licensed beds, 104 acute and 69 sub‑acute. The hospital admits 7,400 patients and treats more than 30,000 outpatients per year. Memorial Hospital of Gardena is fully accredited by The Joint Commission and licensed for Medicare and Medi‑Cal. Coast Plaza Doctors Hospital has 117 licensed beds, including a 37‑bed Behavioral Health unit.
Pharmacy Hours: Memorial Hospital of Gardena – centralized pharmacy open 24/7. Coast Plaza Doctors Hospital – Monday 7:00am-8:30pm; Tuesday‑Friday 7:30am-8:30pm; Saturday & Sunday 8:00am-4:30pm.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all pharmacy services within a single hospital, aligning operations with the hospital's clinical, quality, and financial goals.
- Ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based medication use, overseeing clinical pharmacy practice, medication safety, and formulary management.
- Lead, develop, and hold accountability for pharmacy leadership and staff, including managers, pharmacists, technicians, and support teams.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and legal requirements, including Joint Commission, CMS, USP, BOP and state/federal laws.
- Oversee pharmacy financial performance, including budgeting, purchasing, contract management, and cost‑containment initiatives.
- Collaborate with executive leadership and interdisciplinary stakeholders, supporting system-wide patient care, quality, and safety initiatives.
- Drive innovation, performance improvement, and strategic growth, leveraging data, technology, and best practices to advance pharmacy services.

Required Qualifications
- B.S. or PharmD from an ACPE‑accredited School of Pharmacy.
- Current California Pharmacist license in good standing.
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services; proficiency in new medications and technology.
- Demonstrated leadership, administration, human resources, and managerial skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively participate in interdisciplinary teams and committees.
- Business acumen, including profit/loss understanding, contract negotiations, and GPO function.
- Knowledge of pathophysiology, diagnostic criteria interpretation, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacotherapeutics.
- Experience using pharmacy information systems, pharmacy software, word processing, and spreadsheets.
Preferred Qualification
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
- Problem solving and analytical thinking ability.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Pay is based on several factors including local labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications. In addition to salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase, and 401(k) contribution (subject to eligibility requirements). The salary range for this role is $112,700 to $193,200 annually for full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
