
Membership Development Director

The Goering Center is seeking a Membership Development Director to lead growth of our membership community while ensuring a high level of engagement and long-term value for our members. This is a highly visible, relationship-driven leadership role focused on driving new member acquisition while overseeing the ongoing engagement and retention of an established member base. You will work closely with leadership to expand the organization’s reach and impact across the Cincinnati business community.
The Role
This position is responsible for leading the Goering Center’s membership strategy, with a strong emphasis on building and converting new relationships with business owners and executives.
You will:
- Drive new member growth through proactive outreach, networking, and relationship development
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective members
- Partner with the Board, volunteers, and community network to generate referrals and opportunities
- Represent the Goering Center in the business community and at external events
- Oversee membership engagement efforts led by the team to ensure strong onboarding, participation, and retentionCoach and develop a small membership team to improve consistency and performance

- Consistent growth in new member acquisition
- A strong, well-managed pipeline of qualified prospects
- High levels of member engagement and retention
- Increased participation in programs, institutes, and events
- Improved alignment between member needs and organizational offerings
What We’re Looking For
- 15+ years in business development, membership, or relationship-based sales
- Experience working with business owners, founders, or senior executives
- Background in association, chamber, nonprofit, professional services, or B2B environments is preferred
- High business acumen and ability to understand owner-level challenges
- Leadership experience managing or coaching a team
- Strong ties to the Cincinnati business community (or ability to build them quickly)
- Comfortable operating in a visible, externally facing role
