Basketball Program Director and Varsity Head Coach - Holy Cross School

Position Summary

Basketball Program Director will serve as Varsity Head Coach and oversee all aspects of the basketball program for 5th-12th grades. The Director is a key collaborator in implementing the entire basketball program, coordinating with other coaches, and evaluating programs and coaches across sports. The Director promotes the highest level of sportsmanship, fully supporting and enforcing all regulations of the athletic associations of which Holy Cross is a member and the school's own regulations. The ideal candidate is an inspiring leader committed to Holy Cross School’s mission, culture, and community. The Director serves as a brand ambassador, ensuring families and partners view Holy Cross School as an outstanding Catholic school that prioritizes relationships and prepares students for the future. The Director will report to the Director of Athletics.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • At least five (5) years of coaching at the high school level or an equivalent experience playing or coaching at the collegiate level.
  • Exceptional leadership, managerial, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid teaching certificate for the State of Louisiana or currently pursuing one.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise coaching staff
    • Meet regularly with coaching staff to maintain open communication.
    • Provide staff development on LHSAA and district regulations, foster community, and advise on policies and procedures.
    • Define and implement ongoing performance evaluation for staff and program components.
    • Recommend retention and hiring of assistant coaches and participate in the selection process.
  • Provide for the needs of individual student‑athletes
    • Establish eligibility for each participating student.
    • Report all injuries sustained during practice or competition to the Finance Office and facilitate individual insurance claims.
    • Submit accident reports to the Athletic Director within twenty‑four hours.
    • Ensure no pressure is applied to athletes to select one sport over another; decisions rest with the student and parents.
    • Define policies, procedures, and programs in the Holy Cross Athletic Handbook that prioritize sportsmanship, fair play, and community spirit.
    • Coordinate the year‑round sport‑specific athletic program
      • Maintain compliance with LHSAA regulations and district policies.
      • Assist the Athletic Director in fulfilling eligibility requirements and submitting accurate rosters.
      • Comply with Archdiocese of New Orleans Safe Environment requirements.
      • Define and implement policies for athletic awards and plan award ceremonies.
      • Attend regular athletic team meetings as needed.
      • Communicate with the Athletic Director and Principal on LHSAA and district matters.
      • Supervise order and discipline during athletic events.
      • Enforce student regulations regarding behavior and appearance.
      • Ensure athletic facilities are cared for, maintained, and secured after each event.
      • Support public relations for the Athletic Director
        • Submit entry lists and seasonal information as requested.
        • Cooperate with school publications.
        • Cooperate with news media regarding basketball.
      • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

Expectation to work additional hours as needed, including evenings and weekends, to support all school and basketball program needs.

Compensation

Salary commensurate with qualifications and includes a comprehensive benefits package for all full‑time employees.
