Overview

The Executive Director ensures the smooth functioning of the Sister Bay Advancement Association (SBAA) and oversees office operations, Visitor Center coordination, membership services, organizational administration, and high-level oversight of marketing and events. This role is responsible for member communications, membership sponsorship solicitation, financial and compliance management, and maintaining strong community and municipal partnerships. The Executive Director supervises the Marketing & Events Coordinator and provides strategic oversight.

Duties & Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership & Administration

  • Develop and implement the annual work program and organizational budget (with Board approval).
  • Maintain an efficient office and Visitor Center including staff management, performance reviews, HR oversight, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with 501(c)(6) requirements, legal standards, and professional financial practices.
  • Review monthly financials; collaborate with accountant and Treasurer to present financials to the Board.
  • Schedule and coordinate Board meetings; prepare agendas, packets, reports, and communications.
  • Advise Board on policy matters, operational needs, opportunities, and issues.
  • Assist with Board development, recruitment, and governance initiatives.

Membership & Sponsorship

  • Serve as the primary contact for member communications, including general updates, organizational news, and business resources.
  • Lead annual membership drive and event sponsorship solicitation, with support from Marketing & Events Coordinator.
  • Maintain membership records and sponsorship documentation.
  • Maintain regular contact with local businesses to gather feedback, support needs, and identify opportunities.

Community & Tourism Support

  • Maintain strong relationships with Village of Sister Bay, Destination Door County, Door County Economic Development, Door County Tourism Zone, community business associations, and Wisconsin tourism partners.
  • Manage operations of the Sister Bay Village Shuttle Bus (in partnership with the Village).
  • Represent SBAA in community meetings and maintain alignment with community priorities.

Marketing & Event Management

  • Provide oversight for marketing strategy, membership advertising co-op program, and public-facing communications led by the Marketing & Events Coordinator.
  • Ensure SBAA’s marketing and events align with organizational goals and community trends.
  • Work with the Marketing & Events Coordinator to ensure events are planned and executed, managing timelines and budgets.
  • Prepare and submit all required Village permits and event paperwork.
  • Serve as primary contact for key vendors, sponsors, and partners (especially high-level or contractual relationships).
  • Facilitate and lead event planning meetings with stakeholders.
  • Oversee volunteer program structure and staffing needs led by Marketing & Events Coordinator.
  • Lead on-site event execution, oversight, and problem-solving in coordination with Marketing & Events Coordinator.
  • Create post-event summaries and feedback to inform future planning in collaboration with Marketing & Events Coordinator.
  • These tasks may vary by event; the Executive Director is responsible for assessing overall project needs and adjusting roles and task distribution as necessary to ensure priorities are aligned and each event is successfully supported.

Funding & Grants

  • Research, identify, and pursue public/private funding opportunities that support SBAA.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Events Coordinator on event- and marketing-related grant opportunities.

Other Duties

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Board.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, tourism, event management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years experience in related field.
  • Prior management and staff supervision experience preferred.
  • Strong administrative, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to prepare written and statistical reports from various data.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under deadlines.
  • Ability to deal courteously, tactfully, and effectively with public, other employees, and governmental partners.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Suite; QuickBooks familiarity preferred.
  • Ability to lift 30–50 lbs. and work event nights and weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license and transportation; Safe Serve certification.
  • Knowledge of local government, business organizations, and Door County helpful.

Job Location and Hours

  • Position is based at the Sister Bay Advancement Association Sister Bay office and is a salaried exempt position.
  • Position requires periodic travel within the County.
  • Occasional travel outside the County may be required to attend work related training and conferences.
