Business Development Director - Contractors Sector

Role Description

We are seeking a Market Sector Leader to lead long‑term, sustainable, profitable growth, winning relationships with successful global/regional construction contractor clients and the best industry partners to drive sustainable, profitable growth across Arcadis’ three principal businesses in North America (Mobility, Places and Resilience). This role targets in excess of $150 m in annual net revenue and a double‑digit year‑on‑year growth ambition.

Account Strategy

Develop and implement Account Strategy

  • Support the development and subsequent maintenance of a North American market sector strategy, ensuring growth aspirations, capacity, capability, risk appetite and emerging market trends are included.
  • Maintain the strategy through ongoing liaison with senior/country leadership and key sales and operational leaders, detailed market research and engagement with contractor clients across the region.

Client Development & Account Management

  • Support the identification and nomination of regional contractor key clients (Cluster 2) as part of a wider global key account management program.
  • Coordinate with nominated Account Team Leaders to develop and implement Account Plans; the Market Sector Leader will act as Account Team Leader for at least one Cluster 2 client.
  • Support the MSL and Global Market Sector Director in managing relationships with global key contractor clients (Cluster 1).
  • Liaise with Account Team Leaders to create annual revenue and margin projections and develop quarterly updates.
  • Drive overall growth in market sector NOI, sold gross margin, weighted pipeline and DRO to meet or exceed planned targets.
  • Develop and expand a sustainable network of relationships across the sector.
  • Collaborate with Solutions teams to develop and implement pursuit/positioning strategy.
  • Deliver a maximal client experience, conduct CX surveys and act on findings.

Pipeline Management

  • Work with Business Areas, contractor clients and 3rd‑party design partners to identify opportunities that align with the market sector strategy.
  • Maintain a robust pipeline sized to meet revenue and margin targets in the short, medium and long term.
  • Maintain the pipeline in Oracle Sales Cloud (Redwood) and produce dashboards, reports and tracking documents from this single source.
  • Lead the evaluation and implementation of AI‑based software solutions to support pipeline management.
  • Communicate the pipeline regularly to Business Areas for resource management, financial planning and engagement of staff.

Market to Opportunity

  • Proactively secure teaming positions with contractor clients ahead of opportunities.
  • Maintain corporate profile and relationships across North America through conferences, associations and industry events.
  • Coordinate review and negotiation of contract documentation (NDAs, LOIs, MOUs, Teaming Agreements) with Operations and Legal.
  • Progress due diligence and governance processes, including MORE sessions, Pursuit Committee reviews and risk evaluation.

Pursuit to Win

  • Act as Pursuit Leader/Director for at least one major project pursuit annually, per Business Area Sales Directors or Major Projects Director.
  • Proactively support live market sector pursuits, drawing on market knowledge and corporate insights.

Thought Leadership

  • Coordinate Arcadis visibility at industry conferences and meetings within the market sector.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven track record of developing and implementing sales strategies to grow client accounts profitably.
  • Experience working with contractors and developers on diverse construction projects.
  • Existing network of contacts within Contractor and Developer organisations.
  • Expertise building external networks and evolving relationships into profitable B2B partnerships.
  • Track record of identifying, developing and securing business opportunities across key infrastructure sectors; experience in Mobility (highways, railways, ports) is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and the ability to inspire multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ambitious, entrepreneurial mindset, passionate about growth and overcoming challenges.
  • Experience working across a matrix organisation and leveraging personal networks for business success.
  • Ability to apply structured account management principles to strategic client relationships.
  • Strong understanding of opportunity pipeline and how to position Arcadis for success.
  • Ability to articulate experience in alternative delivery models (Design Build, Progressive Build, IPD, Alliance) and P3 funding mechanisms.

Salary range is $182,293–$209,636, subject to experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
