Managing Senior Director of Development – Leeds School of Business

Advancement at CU Boulder invites applications for a Managing Senior Director of Development for the Leeds School of Business. The incumbent reports to the Assistant Dean for Advancement and is responsible for strategizing, developing, leading, implementing, and managing comprehensive fundraising efforts for the Leeds School of Business. This role members of a seventeen‑person leadership team and has a dual focus on individual contributions and team leadership, overseeing a portfolio of major and principal gift donors and serving as a strategic fundraising partner for the centers of excellence within the School.

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Management and Donor Engagement:
    • Develop and manage a portfolio of 25–40 prospects capable of making major or principal gifts ($5M+). Approximately one‑third of the portfolio is expected to be in the discovery phase.
    • Invite and secure at least three seven‑figure solicitations, ten six‑figure solicitations, and philanthropic commitments totaling over $2M annually.
    • Draft strategic plans for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding each donor in collaboration with the gift planning team, academic partners, and colleagues.
    • Conduct regular travel to meet donors and coordinate visits.
    • Brief senior university leaders and faculty on prospect/donor visits and events.
    • Document prospect strategies, contact reports, stewardship reports, and correspondence.
  • Team Leadership and Management:
    • Oversee and lead major gift professionals, providing coaching, mentorship, and administrative personnel actions (performance management, hiring, training, onboarding, offboarding).
    • Collaborate on annual metric setting and provide regular feedback to help employees meet goals.
    • Serve on the Advancement Management Team, attending scheduled meetings and collaborating with colleagues.
    • Develop annual philanthropic and engagement goals in partnership with the Assistant Dean and leadership team.
  • Strategy Development and Other Duties:
    • Lead fundraising and engagement strategy for the four centers of excellence within the School.
    • Support the Assistant Dean in external engagement and the School’s strategic plan for 2035.
    • Provide strategic direction related to performance goals and metrics for advancement initiatives.
    • Deepen collaboration with campus colleagues to grow philanthropic totals.
    • Work with the dean, faculty, and volunteers to implement fundraising strategies.
    • Represent the University at events to support CU and cultivate donors.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Other Information:
    • Position requires local, regional, and out‑of‑state travel to meet with donors.
    • Hybrid schedule possible; some days on campus, some remote.
    • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of professional, job‑related experience, including leadership or supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Software proficiency: Microsoft Office, Salesforce, Zoom, Teams, LinkedIn, Paciolan.
  • 6+ years of progressive fundraising experience.
  • Experience managing a major gifts team or alumni engagement professionals.
  • Experience in a non‑profit or higher education environment.
  • Background in business schools.
  • CFRE certification and/or a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in management.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $150,000–$180,000 annually. Relocation assistance is available within Advancement guidelines.
