Objectives
Takeda seeks an experienced and highly skilled drug development leader to lead the program team for an innovative hepatology program, which is evaluating a first-in-class molecule intended for a rare disease. The current program encompasses multiple ongoing clinical trials, including a phase 3 registrational study. The individual appointed to this role will be accountable for advancing the program through regulatory filing, approval, and eventual commercialization.

Accountabilities
Program Strategy, Activity Planning and Execution
- Oversee and lead all program team interactions with FDA and other regulatory authorities and key opinion leaders
- Proactively identify challenges and develop contingency plans
- Lead the Global Program Team in setting vision, strategy, goals, priorities and long-term plans aligned with Takeda business needs
- Work closely with the GPM to provide strategic, process and operational leadership to multiple GPTs and functions across all phases of development, including early POM/POC, large‑scale Phase III/submission, and launch projects
- Link GPT cross-functional subteams through function‑based leaders to execute according to the Enterprise GPT Playbook and ensure transparency of all program activities
- Provide leadership and support to TA leaders and subteam leaders to set vision and prioritize program aspects within a global program
- Report project progress, changes, critical path and risks to TA Unit and Takeda executive management on internal or external reviews
- Lead key business initiatives such as evaluating new opportunities and supporting feasibility studies on potential global programs
Fiscal Responsibility
- Accountable with the responsible GPM for project operating budgets within the global program; monitor and control expenditures, manage variance between budgeted and actual expenditures of time, dollars and personnel while meeting overall financial objectives
Resource and Issue Management
- Evaluate external interactions against overall development strategies using complex problem solving in the region but within a global environment
- Manage internal and external resources, allocate project resources given division, function and individual goals to align with business imperatives
- Proactively identify and monitor project risks before they transform into issues, develop contingency plans, communicate issues to senior executive management and manage issues to resolution
- Consult with TAU, Franchise Leadership and Portfolio Office to deliver accurate and timely project status and deliverable information, enabling the organization to focus on priorities and enhance delivery of work on time and on budget
Change Management
- Proactively respond to dynamics of a changing marketplace, directing adjustments in functional or cross-divisional plans in response to changes in strategic direction; act as change management agent for the GPT
- Contribute to creation and maintenance of systems/databases to track KPIs, trend, learn and improve decisions regarding program performance and continuance
Matrix Team Management
- Provide mentorship to team members, advising on professional development opportunities in partnership with functional leaders
- Provide matrix management, strategic and tactical leadership to GPT members responsible for lead deliverables or functional subteams; ensure subteam leads are accountable to the GPL and manage stakeholder expectations in a highly matrixed work environment
Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
Required
- Advanced scientific degree (MD, PhD or PharmD)
- Minimum of 12 years related/relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with deep knowledge of research and development and commercial operations
- Minimum 8 years interdisciplinary global experience with complex projects including strategy, execution and matrix team management
- Managed global marketing authorization submissions/approvals for multiple NMEs
- Broad business/enterprise orientation with proven matrix leadership experience (highly preferred)
- Passionate about developing others into future leaders
Licenses/Certifications
- Project Management Professional certification from PMI desired

U.S. Base Salary Range
$238,000.00 – $374,000.00
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well‑being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
