Job Overview
The Senior Director of Procurement is responsible for developing, leading and driving Procurement strategic initiatives for over $2B of inventory. This position will lead multiple areas within Procurement including Forecasting and Planning. It will be responsible for key stakeholder engagement and working partnerships with cross‑functional leaders to create solutions and drive UNFI growth. The Senior Director will work through the department to optimize service level to customers, balance Days on Hand (DOH), aged inventory, production goals and minimize inventory spoilage for UNFI. Accomplishes results working through Manager, Sr Manager or Director levels. Ensures that project and department milestones are met and has full authority for personnel actions.
Job Responsibilities
- Executing strategic initiatives to drive forward the Procurement organization, partnering with internal and external leaders.
- Influencing the development of LEAN objectives and long‑range company goals.
- Demonstrating strategic and results‑oriented leadership, including accountability to regular financial reporting (spoilage, inventory, SG&A) and urgency to address gaps to achieve UNFI goals and budget.
- Ensuring the completion of strategic projects within established timeframes and working to exceed expectations.
- Managing the company's inventory to maximize UNFI's working capital.
- Managing the company's fill and production rate according to company goals and targets.
- Partnering with Customers, Suppliers and Operations to drive effective planning procedures and policies that improve inventory, spoilage, and customer fill rates.
- Managing a team of leaders responsible for identifying new processes and efficiencies.
- Formulating, proposing, and managing budgets to keep programs and activities cost effective, efficient, and within established budget constraints.
- Leveraging current customer, supplier and operations relationships to expand business opportunities at all levels.
- Providing leadership to supply chain personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, training, and communication.
Additional Responsibilities
- Ensuring professional relations with all customers, suppliers, trade professionals, external contacts, and within all company regions and divisions.
- Keeping customers, suppliers, third parties, and business partners well informed through continual feedback and communication.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience.
Experience
- Ten (10) or more years of Supply Chain experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

- Ability to lead, supervise and coach others.
- Solid analytical skills.
- Ability to make public presentations.
- Ability to implement surveys and interpret results.
- Good judgment required for this position; direct supervision may not be available at all times.
Work Environment
- Hybrid Role: This position follows a hybrid schedule working in office () days per week. The acceptable split between onsite and remote work is determined by the manager. Hybrid associates may choose to work from an office more frequently than required.
Travel
- Travel is required up to 30% for this position.
