Executive Director: SY

The Executive Director is in charge of ensuring that the mission and vision of the school is implemented effectively, ensuring that academic programs accelerate positive outcomes for all students. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of running a school. This includes providing instructional leadership to faculty, managing the on‑site operations and administrative duties, supporting student enrollment, and cultivating a strong anti‑bias, anti‑racist school culture. The Executive Director will also foster relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to meet budgetary, academic, and talent goals.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Vision

  • Create a school‑based vision that aligns with Summit Public Schools’ mission, including clearly articulated goals and measures of success. Lead all internal and external stakeholders to implement the vision effectively and refine it throughout the academic year.
  • Meet regularly with students, parents, and faculty to communicate and inspire them around the mission and vision.
  • Ensure that academic programs accelerate outcomes for all students by providing strong instructional leadership, facilitating leadership team meetings with faculty and staff, and providing professional development and coaching.

Data Management & Student Academics

  • Implement a school design and program that regularly collects and analyzes data to improve student outcomes, including a training system and a culture where faculty regularly use classroom data.
  • Maintain accurate data in the student information system and ensure all student records comply with federal, state, and local guidelines.
  • Design, implement and manage a testing plan that includes both external (e.g., SATs) and internal tests (e.g., CAASPP) to meet all test ordering deadlines and guidelines, supervise testing protocols, train proctors, and collaborate with Special Education teachers for accommodations.
  • Ensure that all courses offered are approved through the UC system; design, implement and manage a UC course approval plan, stay up to date with changes, and oversee its execution.

Recruitment and Retention

  • Ensure that the school is fully enrolled by developing and executing a vision for student recruitment and enrollment in collaboration with other site‑based school leadership and the external engagement team.
  • Collaborate with the talent team, other school leaders, and Heads of Schools to interview, assess, and select the best faculty and staff, using culturally responsive rubrics and tools.
  • Coach and support faculty and staff to ensure professional progression and growth through goal setting, observation, evaluation, feedback, and advocacy for development opportunities.
  • Create and maintain a strong faculty culture that embraces the vision and meets the mission of the school; lead new hires through a school‑specific onboarding program.

School Culture

  • Lead faculty, staff, students, and parents to support a strong school culture that embraces the vision and provides an engaging and supportive environment.
  • Ensure a positive student experience with extracurricular activities, including athletic teams, student clubs and groups, and other related school events.
  • Develop and implement effective restorative practices and discipline strategy for students.

Relationship Management

  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including school governing bodies, community partners, and student families.
  • Meet requirements with school governing bodies according to charter petition and attend SPS Board meetings at least twice a year.
  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with community partners.

School Operations

  • Ensure that the school is accredited through WASC, designing, implementing, and managing a WASC plan, and using it to assess school effectiveness.
  • Create and maintain a balanced budget in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer, forecast, monitor, and manage school budget, and authorize spending by signing expense reports and reviewing contracts.
  • Participate in audits of financial procedures and support on‑site operations and administrative staff to maintain operational facilities.
  • Design, implement, and manage a student attendance plan, collaborate with the office manager on front‑desk operations, and manage the lunch program to meet federal, state and local compliance requirements (PCSGP, CPR training, SB 740, PENSEC, CALPADS, CBEDs, etc.).

Key Qualities and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required).
  • Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or similar program (required).
  • Prior experience in school leadership (required).
  • A Teaching Credential in California or another U.S. state (required) and prior teaching experience.
  • An Administrative Credential in California or another U.S. State (required).
  • Proficiency in Google Platforms: Drive, Sheets, Docs, Slides.
  • Clear health and background check.

Our compensation policy strives to be equitable and transparent. The salary for this position starts at $131,337 and goes up to $165,120 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
