Job Summary
Sr. Director Development plans, develops, and implements donor strategies for Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH). This includes capital campaigns, annual giving, corporate and institutional giving, employee and board giving, endowment programs, and planned giving. It also involves related marketing strategies and donor communications. Meets with donors and prospective donors to build relationships. Liaises with outside organizations, corporations, intermediaries, and agents of wealth to obtain funds for BSWH. Manages the engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of current and prospective donors for an assigned gift portfolio. Establishes and implements policies, procedures, and practices for the foundation's responsibilities. Ensures compliance with departmental and regulatory standards. Develops and applies fundraising strategies to meet annual gifting goals of BSWH foundations in alignment with BSWH's overall mission and business aims.
Essential Functions of the Role
- Directs major gift fundraising for assigned area of responsibility for BSWH.
- Recommends and implements foundation strategic and operational plans and priorities aligned to BSWH overall business goals.
- Develops and implements major gift donor campaigns, programs, and strategies to close on assigned gift portfolio throughout the fiscal year.
- Manages the creation and implementation of fundraising policies, procedures, and processes for seeking gifts for assigned foundations.
- Develops ongoing relationships with current donors and new prospects to secure gifts and meet or exceed annual fundraising goals.
- Manages and applies fundraising techniques and donor strategies. This includes qualifying capacity, building rapport, and identifying philanthropic interests to meet BSWH foundation gifting goals.
- Leverages and enhances donor and prospect experiences, utilizes database management, and manages total portfolio to achieve financial and non-financial goals.
- Serves as liaison to assigned Foundation Board members and assigned select hospital boards.
- Develops and implements specific fundraising programs and approaches such as grateful patient discovery.
- Researches and applies best practices, trends, and tools in philanthropy. Translates them for use at BSWH as appropriate.
Key Success Factors
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, health care administration, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in health care foundation, philanthropy, fundraising or similar role.
- Experience in a leadership role preferred.
- Knowledge of proposal writing, grant writing, and donor acquisition and retention.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Highly organized, with time management and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage and influence stakeholders inside and outside of the foundation.
- Prior experience in health care or general non-profits preferred.
