Overview

At CF&I Steel, L.P., our strength starts with our people. The Director of Lean and Continuous Improvement will own the implementation and management of the Orion Operating System at Rocky Mountain Steel Mills. This role oversees and drives all continuous improvement activities, coaching all levels of the organization on problem solving and the program components.

Responsibilities

  • Program Development and Growth: Design and implement the Orion Operating System at Rocky Mountain Steel Mills. Roll out the Principles, Process, Tools, Metrics, Cadence, and Standard Work; own components of the program post-implementation and engage all levels of the organization through Kaizen events and coaching. Support the implementation of a Reliability Centered Maintenance Program.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop programs and projects aligned with leadership on business performance and organizational objectives.
  • Team Development: Determine the right seats and people for the Lean organization at Rocky Mountain Steel Mills. Develop a world-class team with guidance and support for current and future members.
  • Project Execution: Oversee project scoping, planning, execution, data analysis and monitoring, independently or with the team. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and drive meaningful operational impact.
  • Process Improvement and Standard Work: Identify and document critical processes, lead cross-functional teams to standardize work, measure performance, and ensure standard work drives intended results. Lead workshops, Kaizens, and brainstorming to improve operations, reduce waste and costs.
  • Training and Development: Develop and deliver training programs to embed lean and continuous improvement in culture. Provide coaching on lean principles and their business impact. Act as a visible leader across townhalls, stand-ups, admin cell meetings, weekly leadership meetings, and Monthly Operating Reviews.
  • Performance Monitoring: Establish metrics and KPIs to track continuous improvement initiatives and identify areas needing improvement initiatives.
  • Relationship Building: Build trust and relationships across all levels of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, including business, engineering, or operations management
  • Certified Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma with extensive experience leading and executing improvement projects with proven impact
  • 10+ years of experience, including implementation and/or ownership and monitoring of a program similar to the Orion Operating System (e.g., Toyota Production System, Danaher Business System)
  • Influencing skills: ability to move projects to completion leveraging the expertise of others not directly reporting to you
  • Proven problem-solving skills: strong analytical abilities, knowledge of risk assessments, root cause analysis using techniques such as five whys and causal maps
  • Change management
  • Project Management: ability to scope projects, establish a project charter, develop plans and manage resources
  • Communication: strong verbal and written communication skills including leading meetings, presenting, and preparing analyses

Compensation

  • $180,000 - $200,000
