Overview

YMCA Camp MacLean is hiring a Camp Program Director to coordinate and direct program uses of the camp with primary focus on group services "Outdoor Education" while supporting the resident camp director role. The Program Director ensures safety and welfare of all campers, carries out the mission, fosters relationships with schools, groups, and community partners, and provides leadership in creating engaging, inclusive, mission‑driven program experiences.

Salary

$57,000 to $60,000 per year with full‑time benefits and opportunities to grow within the organization.

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Follow, uphold and support Y procedures, Y policies and positive public relations at all times.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, management, growth and evaluation of all assigned camp programs.
  • Support the Director of Camp Programming in overseeing select aspects of our overnight summer resident camp program.
  • Serve as resident host to facilitate a quality experience for all campers, including assigned groups (Includes weekends & nights). Position requires residency within a 10‑mile radius from Camp MacLean. Housing is not provided.
  • Oversee adventure/challenge/high ropes activities within programs.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise part‑time and/or seasonal staff needed to facilitate camp programs within assigned departments.
  • Coordinate food service and facility needs with the Food Service Manager and property manager.
  • Act as a team member, working closely with other staff including the executive director on all interrelated matters.
  • Manage budget, achieve revenue goals, and maintain control of expenses.
  • Market all assigned programs, including preparation and dissemination of camp literature and communication via phone and social media.
  • Maintain accurate files and records.
  • Ensure proper use of all camp equipment.
  • Assist the Director of Camp Programming in learning all facets of camp programming and operations beyond assigned programs. Serve as one of two program/operations directors responsible for general camp operation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Specific Functions

  • Manager of Outdoor Education Programs; sets standards and best practices with Director of Camp Programming.
  • Bookings, inquiries, contracts, deposits.
  • Outdoor education program instructor hiring, scheduling and supervising.
  • Group preparation & communication with other full‑time staff members.
  • Skyway inspection, maintenance and training duties.
  • Assist with summer resident camp staff training and/or other summer duties as assigned.
  • Assist with social media content.
  • Lifeguard certification highly recommended.
  • 10‑mile camp radius residency required. Housing is not provided.

Minimum/Preferred Requirements

Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of two seasons of outdoor education and/or YMCA resident camp & group service leadership experience. Experience or knowledge in environmental and experiential education preferred. Must have experience in leading seasonal camp staff. Previous training/experience in high ropes courses and adventure/challenge programs preferred. Lifeguard certification highly recommended. Must be an energetic person committed to the YMCA mission. Willing to work a flexible schedule to include nights, holidays and weekends. This position requires excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

Child Abuse Prevention

  • Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor.
  • Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to monitoring and supervision of children.
  • Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
  • Complete all child abuse prevention training as required.
