Executive Director, O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law – Georgetown University
Job Overview
The Executive Director collaborates with and reports to the Faculty Director to set the vision and objectives for the O’Neill Institute. The role includes strategic planning, supervising staff, fundraising, planning events and programs, advancing sponsored research, developing publications, and coordinating programs for students. The Director supervises seven Center Directors and oversees administration, finance, communications, and core responsibilities. The position also involves independent scholarly activities such as research, writing, lecturing, and occasional teaching as appropriate.
Responsibilities
- Institution building and development of the Institute’s programs and reputation
- Fundraising and development of resources for the Institute
- Convening and leading meetings, conferences, and policy discussions
- Curricular administration and coordination of student programs
- Communication strategy, public relations, and internal communication
- Recruitment management and budgeting across the Institute
- Daily supervision of staff, fellows, and students
- Collecting information on activities and collaborating with affiliated entities
Requirements and Qualifications
- Terminal degree (J.D., Ph.D., M.D., MBA) or equivalent
- At least seven years of senior or executive leadership experience
- Proficiency in fundraising and development
- Demonstrated expertise in program building, sponsored research, and academic administration
- Innovative thinker with independent judgment, accountability, impeccable integrity, and strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication, organizational, financial, and leadership skills
- Ability to take initiative, implement vision, resolve problems, and advance the mission of the Institute
- Experience collaborating with government agencies, international organizations, civil society, or think‑tank partners
- Successful experience in programming and convening high‑level and local events (roundtables, colloquia, symposia)
- Knowledge of leading scholars and researchers in the field for partnership building
- Experience serving on the board of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with fiduciary responsibilities and governance
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with academic leaders, faculty, staff, donors, and volunteers
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise and additional training in medicine, political science, economics, public health, social determinants of health, bioethics, or related disciplines
