Position Description

Neonatology Faculty Position and Fellowship Program Director – UC Davis Children’s Hospital, School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Neonatology.

The University of California, Davis School of Medicine is launching a national search for a full‑time academic neonatology faculty clinician‑scientist or clinician‑educator who will serve as the Program Director for our Neonatal‑Perinatal Medicine Fellowship. This position is open to Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level candidates (commensurate with credentials) in the Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series and requires candidates to be at least three years from training completion. Ideal applicants demonstrate a strong interest in fellowship mentorship, education, and training; preferred candidates possess administrative experience in program leadership.

Responsibilities include clinical care, teaching medical students, residents and fellows, scholarly and/or research activities of the Department of Pediatrics, and service on departmental committees. Candidates will work with Assistant Program Directors to lead our eight‑fellow program in clinical, educational, and research excellence.

The UC Davis Children’s Hospital is located on the UC Davis Health campus in Sacramento, California, serving over one million children in Northern California, the Central Valley, and Western Nevada. It is a 121‑bed hospital housed within the 619‑bed University of California, Davis Medical Center and the only designated children’s hospital in the Sacramento region.

Externally, the hospital houses a Level IV 49‑bed Neonatal Unit with an ACGME‑accredited fellowship program in Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine, and offers full complementary pediatric subspecialty care including pediatric and cardiovascular surgery, ECLS, and Level I Children's Surgery Center certified by the American College of Surgeons.

Basic Qualifications

  • M.D. or D.O.
  • Successful completion of an approved pediatric residency training program
  • Board eligibility/certification in Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine
  • Eligibility for a California Medical License
  • Ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment
  • At least three years of experience post‑training

  • Successful completion of an approved Neonatal‑Perinatal Medicine Fellowship at time of hire
