As Managing Director, you will lead Helvetia’s operations in Latin America and the Caribbean, driving profitable growth and market leadership. You’ll guide expansion, foster collaboration between Treaty and Facultative business lines, and help shape Helvetia’s regional strategy. This role empowers you to make an impact via strategic client development, operational excellence, and by aligning local activities with the company’s global vision, tailored to each market’s needs.

You’ll also play a critical part in ensuring compliance with local regulations and maintaining strong links with authorities. You will be directly responsible for regulatory oversight and compliance for Helvetia’s new Miami operations in the region, establishing yourself as a trusted authority in the evolving insurance sector.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead Helvetia’s strategic growth and market expansion in Latin America & the Caribbean, developing and executing plans to drive sustainable, profitable results.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with C-suite executives of leading insurance companies, unlocking new business partnerships and opportunities across the region.
  • Ensure local operations are aligned with Helvetia’s global vision, adapting strategies to regional market needs for maximum impact and performance.
  • Oversee all financial and operational aspects, including budget management, financial analysis, and regulatory compliance, to achieve operational excellence.
  • Take full responsibility for compliance and regulatory oversight of the new Miami operations, maintaining strong relationships with local authorities and fulfilling all legal obligations.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team, fostering motivation, engagement, and professional growth in a collaborative work environment.
  • Implement a dual reporting framework for local segment heads (Treaties, Marine, EN & Property, Claims) ensuring seamless coordination between local operations and headquarters for both operational and technical matters.
  • Demonstrate exceptional people management, operational synergy, and continuous improvement, making a tangible impact on Helvetia’s regional success.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience of senior leadership within Latin American and Caribbean reinsurance markets, with proven success in operational and profitable growth.
  • Recognised expertise in regulatory compliance, financial oversight, and underwriting.
  • Well-connected with C-suite executives and industry leaders across Latin America.
  • Certified in Reinsurance (ARe, CPCU, ACII or equivalent) preferred.
  • Strong strategic leadership and relationship management skills, with a hands‑on, humble approach.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English; Portuguese or German is an advantage.
