
State & Local Tax Income Franchise Managing Director

At Crowe, the State and Local Tax (SALT) team delivers value by helping clients navigate and manage State and Local Income and Franchise tax obligations. We are seeking a SALT Director to join our Lead Tax Services group. This role will serve as a strategic leader within the practice, responsible for driving client success, developing talent, and contributing to the continued growth and innovation of our SALT practice.
Responsibilities
- Lead, oversee, and strategically manage complex state and local income and franchise tax engagements from planning through delivery.
- Serve as a primary relationship leader and trusted advisor to key clients, delivering exceptional service and identifying value‑added opportunities.
- Provide technical leadership on complex SALT matters, including research, planning, structuring, and controversy support.
- Drive practice growth through active participation in business development efforts, including networking, proposal development, cross‑selling, and expanding existing client relationships.
- Collaborate across service lines to deliver integrated solutions and strengthen internal partnerships.
- Mentor, coach, and develop managers, senior staff, and staff; foster a high‑performance, inclusive team environment.
- Contribute to thought leadership initiatives, including technical content, presentations, and industry visibility efforts.
- Support and lead transformation initiatives within the SALT practice, including process improvement, technology adoption, and operational efficiencies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- CPA, JD/LLM, or EA required.
- Minimum of 10+ years of public accounting experience with a strong focus in state and local income and franchise tax.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex engagements and serving as a primary client relationship leader.
- Proven track record of business development, client retention, and practice growth.
- Strong technical research and writing skills with the ability to communicate complex tax matters clearly to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including mentoring and developing professionals across multiple levels.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment while driving strategic initiatives.

Benefits
The wage range for this role is $173,200 – $365,300 per year. You will also receive a comprehensive total rewards package that includes health, dental, vision, retirement savings, paid time off, and other standard benefits.
