The Office of Research Operations, a sub‑team within the Office of the Associate Vice President for Research Operations and Infrastructure, provides strategic and practical support to Georgia Tech’s research community.
Job Summary
Location: Atlanta, Georgia – Full‑time, regular position Provides leadership to a team of project, program, and compliance managers to deliver multiple IT security projects, including large and complex projects, and ensures continuous maturity of cybersecurity programs to address the ever‑changing risk landscape. Organizes workstreams for integrating InfoSec projects with business unit solutions and serves as liaison between Cybersecurity and business. Responsible for setting employee and group goals, deciding on organizational structure to meet those goals, assessing employee and group performance, providing feedback, and making pay recommendations. Interacts regularly with institute‑wide executive leadership, OIT senior leadership, project managers, campus partners and stakeholders, and cross‑functional teams. Advises and counsels these stakeholders and supervises assigned staff.
Responsibilities
- Job Duty 1. Provide continuous leadership in maturity of cybersecurity programs to a team of project managers to deliver multiple IT security projects, including large and complex projects.
- Job Duty 2. Drive execution for on‑time, on‑scope delivery of IT security solutions, releasing new features/capabilities, fixing bugs, and eliminating technical debts, in partnership with university stakeholders.
- Job Duty 3. Manage expectations with stakeholders and prepare professional communications around relevant information security topics.
- Job Duty 4. Facilitate the definition of program/project scope, goals, and deliverables, maintain the program roadmap with clearly defined and attainable desired outcomes and value statements.
- Job Duty 5. Oversee the InfoSec program and project‑level dashboards, scorecards, reporting, and metrics; monitor progress & performance and provide ongoing written and verbal release status updates to senior business partners and project team members on information security program execution.

- Job Duty 9. Communicate program status and elevate issues to key stakeholders, and clearly communicate basic information involving issues of cybersecurity initiatives in simple terms.

Required Qualifications
- Educational Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Required Experience: Seven to nine years of job‑related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Project Management Office (PMO); Scrum Certification; CISSP; CISM; CISA.
- Preferred Educational Qualification: Master’s degree.
- Preferred Experience: Ten or more years of progressive project management experience.
- Background and experience in academia, research, and research computing.
- Familiarity with research security program elements and requirements.
- Experience in developing role‑based policies, procedures, and guidelines in support of compliance programs.
- Familiarity with federal and industry research contracting processes and requirements, including proposals, terms & conditions review, and regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with research administrative systems and data.
- Experience engaging and managing complex cybersecurity projects and programs with multiple stakeholders across diverse research, contractual, and regulatory requirements, including human subjects, export control, intellectual property, and fundamental research.
- Experience implementing federal cybersecurity requirements according to NIST frameworks, specifically NIST 800‑171.
- Experience implementing and managing DFARS or Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) compliance and assessments for federal contracts or grants.
Proposed Salary
Depending on experience, this position will pay between $110,000 and $148,000. All GT employees are bound to the GT/USG compensation policies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- ABILITIES: Strong ability to manage and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population, perform under pressure, make important decisions, communicate complex technical subjects to non‑technical audiences, and manage/direct team.
- KNOWLEDGE: Strong technical knowledge of program‑management principles, process methodologies, system development lifecycle specifically Agile/Scrum; strong working knowledge of identity and access management, finances, budgeting, cost controls on IT projects, and IT infrastructure in an enterprise setting.
- SKILLS: Advanced skills in written and verbal communication, analytical thinking, project‑management tools (JIRA), creating statements of work, customer service, organization, problem‑solving, and strong attention to detail; proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
