Job Description

Reporting directly to our CTO, you will be tasked with influencing all aspects of our SaaS‑based business, delivering innovative designs to take Vertafore to the next level. You will often wear multiple hats and have a holistic, multi‑faceted career‑building experience working with top talent.
Responsibilities and Requirements
Essential job functions included but are not limited to the following:
- Architecture / Strategy: Collaborates with the CTO, members of the Technology Leadership team, Principal Engineers and Business Stakeholders to develop an Enterprise Architecture Vision & Strategy aligned with Company objectives.
- Works with various architects around the business, partners, and our PE firm in delivering successful strategy, planning and implementation of technical capabilities and platforms.
- Engages and develops relationships with leaders across the global organization to understand functional business needs and identify opportunities to introduce new technical solutions.
- Aligns closely with our Product Management and Engineering teams to ideate, scope, plan, estimate, coordinate, derisk roadmaps for our consumer‑facing experiences and tools.
- Drives thought leadership within the organization with presentations and architectural models that show how the current and future technology needs of the organization align to our company mission and the growth of our business.
- Defines, maintains and evangelizes the company’s current and target platform strategy with reference architectures, business‑system capability map, solution integration requirements and deployment guidelines.
- Drives adoption of new technology across the organization by delivering Proof of Concepts with supporting design diagrams, technical documentation, business impact analysis and ROI.
- Creates technical requirements and global architecture to govern the security, scalability, sustainability, cost and overall quality of our infrastructure, systems, content and data.
- While this position is not expected to be an individual contributor on our production systems on a consistent basis, a person filling this role is expected to be hands‑on enough to be able to jump in and help our teams with technical issues.
- Team Building and Management: Attract, hire & retain highly skilled architects.
- Assess skills & build career development plans for direct reports.
- Performance management through alignment/setting of objectives/deadlines for direct reports and cross‑functional teams.
- Acts as an expert advisor, coach and mentor across the technology organization on latest architecture principles and practices.
- Acts as a point of escalation for teams facing complex technical challenges.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- 15+ years of experience in application development, software & solution architecture with increasing responsibilities, with at least 5 of those managing teams of 5+ architects or engineers.
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
- Prior experience in SaaS platforms generating over $100M in software revenue.
- A passion for mentoring and building strong technical leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to transform teams and technology in a rapidly growing environment.
- Experience leading cross‑functional teams and delivering projects using Agile development practices.
- Experience with Continuous Delivery tools and DevOps practices.
- Experience with Data Technologies: Spark, Tableau, AWS EMR, S3 and other AWS Data Tech.
- Experience with Java, Python SQL, Ruby, .Net, C++.
- Experience with Serverless & microservices architecture.
- Experience with Containers: Docker, Kubernetes.
- Strong API design and implementation skills.
- Strong presentation and written & spoken communication skills.
- Abreast of the latest and greatest technology advancements in web and native mobile platforms.
- Understanding of Big Data architectures, data science / machine learning platforms and Business Intelligence visualization tools.
- Experience with the implementation and integration of business systems across Accounting, Supply Chain and Manufacturing domains is a plus.
- Experience with physical retail technology solutions is a plus.

- Travel required up to 10% of the time.
- Located and working from an office location.
- Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds.
- Frequent repetitive hand and arm movements required to operate a computer.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (working on a computer, etc.).
