Position Summary
The Tech Interactive is seeking a creative and enthusiastic individual to support our communication efforts in science and educational topics to general audiences. This individual will specialize in creating engaging and memorable content, primarily videos. They will be passionate and knowledgeable in current STEM trends and have an enthusiasm for educating and inspiring the next generation. They will thrive in a collaborative environment and bring an authentic and knowledgeable voice to The Tech’s communication efforts.
The Tech explores a wide range of science and technology topics. This includes emerging best practices in STEM education, as well as exhibitions that have specific focus on genetics, AI, human anatomy, biology, mechanical engineering, space exploration, environmental sciences, computer science and, yes, even more subject areas! We’re seeking someone who will help us inspire and inform our audiences where they are, whether that’s at The Tech, TikTok or YouTube.
As a member of The Tech’s marketing team, these efforts will help support a variety of projects that drive attendance, promote science enthusiasm and literacy in the public, and grow contributed and earned revenue. The ideal candidate will be passionate about The Tech, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire the innovator in everyone. The candidate will enjoy working in a fast‑paced environment; derive energy and joy from helping others; have strong organizational skills; possess the ability to communicate clearly and effectively; and be interested in and capable of learning new skills.
The Science Communicator, Digital Media is a full‑time exempt position and will work closely with the Social Media Manager, and other members of the marketing team.
What You’ll Do
- Communicate science concepts in an understandable and engaging way to the general public through various outlets including social media channels. Align these efforts with The Tech’s programs and priorities.
- Own the full creative process by scripting, storyboarding, filming, editing and posting videos. Work closely with The Tech’s in‑house experts in biology, genetics, engineering, learning and marketing to develop accurate and engaging content.
- Stay up‑to‑date and implement best practices in science communication, including how historically underrepresented communities, young people and our local Bay Area folks best engage with science and technology content.
- Monitor audience engagement and perform SEO analysis to improve content production and delivery.
- Measure and report audience engagement and use this data in a process of continuous improvement to ensure content efforts align with institutional priorities.
- Ensure social media reach and engagement meets annual and quarterly goals. Propose changes with the team and make adjustments as determined to achieve success.
- Assist in the development and execution of vendor, partner and sponsor agreements.
- Respond to public requests and follow up questions on posted content. Use these questions in the development process to fuel future content.
- Identify and partner with external influencers and organizations to co‑create content.
Key Qualifications
- At least 2 years’ experience in a marketing or science position taking complex information and communicating it through various media in an easy to understand format.
- Experience communicating complicated topics, especially those in STEM areas, in a fun and engaging way with the general public.
- Experience in video creation, either short‑ or long‑form, for a general audience.
- Familiarity with Adobe Suite.
- Strong understanding of and experience in digital marketing, social media such as TikTok, YouTube and other popular sites, science communication and trends in digital storytelling.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to successfully interact with diverse communication and work styles.
- Excellent writing skills with experience storyboarding and writing scripts.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data and change course based on results.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Fluency in a second language common in the Bay Area a plus.

Salary Range:$70,000 – $85,000 per year
