Global Core Trade Finance (GCTF) – The client base includes Fortune 500/100 companies and key financial institutions. It develops client-centric solutions to mitigate payment risk and improve working capital using traditional trade finance products (Standby Letters of Credit / Guarantees, Import/Export Letters of Credit, Documentary Collections). It supports strategic foreign banks and their clients in North America & UK and acts as a trusted partner to mitigate risks. It works closely with internal TD partners to provide a "One-TD" solution to clients.
Job Description : Reporting to the Managing Director, Head of Global Core Trade Finance, the candidate will provide GCTF product coverage, structuring advice, and risk-mitigation solutions to a portfolio of Canadian-domiciled multinational corporates and drive product penetration within the assigned market. Proactivity, flexibility, technical product expertise, and origination discipline are required to deliver value from prospecting and pitching through deal structuring and execution. As a key product partner, the VP interacts with a wide range of internal stakeholders including industry heads, sector leads within CIB, and partners across credit management, GM, and GTB. A collegial, team-oriented approach and entrepreneurial mindset are critical to manage ambiguity and change in growing a business.
Responsibilities
- Deal Origination & Structuring
- End-to-end transaction lifecycle including origination (due diligence and pitching), structuring, and execution within the assigned portfolio.
- Lead origination efforts to add new clients and increase GCTF market share.
- Provide deal structuring expertise and oversee delivery of term sheets and pitches.
- Obtain credit concurrence and coordinate pricing approvals.
- Arrange and participate in client calls and presentations.
- Maintain an active pipeline of prospective new business.
- Collaborate with regional teams in the US, Toronto, London, Singapore, Montreal, and Vancouver.
- Client Engagement & Relationship Management
- Manage and deepen relationships with existing clients as a trusted advisor for all GCTF matters.
- Navigate the organization to engage relevant partners to resolve client issues.
- Deal Execution
- Support deal communication with the CIB relationship team and prepare deal summaries and deal opportunities.
- Assist in preparing RAROC and pricing models.
- Facilitate negotiation of credit documentation with internal partners and apply a risk lens to deal structures.
- Steward transactions through credit approval to closing/funding.
- Portfolio Management
- Consider risk, controls, compliance, and profitability in day-to-day accountabilities.
- Coordinate with credit and operational teams for ongoing maintenance of the GCTF portfolio.
- Collaboration & Cross-Functional Impact
- Work as a key member of the relationship coverage team within CIB, participating in joint calling/pitching.
- Understand the firm\'s coverage strategy, prospect universe, and risk appetite within assigned market/client segments.
- Develop calling/coverage plans with TD relationship managers.
- Review and guide work of Analysts and Associates to drive results.
- Identify and socialize cross-selling opportunities; operate with a "One-TD" mindset.
- Demonstrate leadership and TD culture both internally and externally.
- Market Insight & Innovation
- Contribute to growing the TD/GTB brand and stay current with market trends and regulatory changes relevant to GCTF.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives and new product builds/onboarding as needed.
Job Requirements
- 10-15 years of relevant experience in trade finance or corporate/commercial lending within a major financial institution, including 5-7 years as a senior/lead contributor with a successful track record in deal origination and execution.
- Strong knowledge of traditional trade finance products (SBLCs, bank guarantees, documentary LCs).
- Experience structuring complex financial transactions, negotiating legal/loan documentation, and understanding credit products with focus on trade financing.
- Experience covering large corporations and global financial institutions.
- Ability to create and deliver professional product ideas and presentations.
- Ability to drive resolution of client issues and travel in North America.
- MBA, CFA, or equivalent experience in financial services, accounting, or legal fields.
- Geopolitical/financial acumen and clear communication skills.
- High motivation, initiative, and ability to engage across diverse industries.
