Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation and distribution of accurate and timely financial reports for the entire organization.
- Design and recommend new or modified accounting systems to support the development and distribution of accurate and timely financial reports.
- Implement and monitor nationally accepted accounting controls, to detect errors in financial reporting on a timely basis.
- Manage the annual budget process, including the development of benchmarks for departmental and organizational financial performance.
- Monitor, analyze and manage changes, trends and modifications in healthcare reimbursement systems of all payers for accurate and timely reporting of net revenue, and operational planning.
- Identify trends and budget variances, and make recommendations for financial performance improvements to departments and CFO.
- Coordinate annual audits by independent or regulatory auditors.
- Prepare regular cash forecasts to support meeting operating and capital needs.
- Manage the capital requisition process ensuring organizational and budgetary compliance.
- Prepare and report statistical information needed to thoroughly analyze organizational financial performance.
- Manage and coordinate the complete revenue cycle operations, including revenue system financial integration and process integrity.
- Monitor and process physician recruitment financial arrangements made with physicians.
- Coordinate and manage cost reporting processes, including the preparation of the annual Medicare Cost report, annual state reporting, and other governmental financial reporting.
- Oversee the development of customer service initiatives that assure top quartile performance in patient satisfaction.
- Oversee Patient Financial Services operations, assuring the timely billing and collection of patient/insurance claims.
- Assure that reporting departments perform at approximately the 50th percentile or better of national benchmarks and meet annual operating budgets.
- Motivate and influence members of the areas of responsibility toward the achievement of desired objectives.
- Communicate effectively with staff at all levels of the organization, conveying the mission, vision, and goals of KHI and the division.
- Create an atmosphere in which goals and objectives are met through teamwork and cooperation.
- Participate in professional growth and encourage professional growth in others.
- Create a management structure that can meet assigned tasks in an effective, efficient manner.
- Complete goals assigned by CFO.
- Evaluate past and current conditions, and recommend a course of action which will enable the development of reporting departments as well as KHI.
- Provide input regarding the development of strategic financial goals that support the hospital’s mission, vision, and values. The plan places emphasis on goals and objectives for the upcoming year and focuses on new services, improved services, employee and medical staff development, and capital equipment needs.
- Present verbal and written ideas and information concisely, logically, and effectively, keeping in mind the intended audience.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Experience: Five (5) years of experience as an accounting manager in an acute care hospital.
Skills and Knowledge
Ability to effectively manage the activities and personnel of assigned areas; exercise mature and sound judgment in the commitment of hospital services with appropriate weight given to humanitarian and economic aspects of such services; effective interpersonal skills; ability to analyze and interpret data and prepare concise, accurate reports; knowledge of current matters relating to healthcare business management.
Preferences
Director of Finance experience preferred; CPA preferred.
